Why is the ST so strongly opposed to sharing discord info?
I emailed the ST and asked if i was allowed to share discord info. This was their response:
“Linking to anything that leads to discord is not okay. Sharing this will cause your account to become blocked so it is important you don't.”
Why do they seem so strongly opposed to discord? It's not a bad website or anything.

Maybe it's because it has private messaging? Honestly IDK anything about discord, I just read that it has chats.

That is probably it…..also maybe it is because it is related to possibly inappropriate gaming sites…. Maybe it's because it has private messaging? Honestly IDK anything about discord, I just read that it has chats.

It has to do with the fact that it's an “unmoderated” chat, meaning pretty much anything can happen. The chats are sometimes abused against their purpose and that can stir up some drama.
And even if certain channels are actually moderated, they won't allow that either since it doesn't often go with Scratch's Code of Conduct.
I'm curious as to what counts as sharing discord info, though. I started a conversation about an old Discord channel that was deleted without linking users to channels in any way and got a warning. I'm quite perplexed.

Why is the ST so strongly opposed to sharing discord info?
Probably because it's mostly unmoderated.
I don't know why ST needs to kick people out for just mentioning the site, that's an overkill.

I've noticed this, they really crack down on mere mentions of un-moderated chats, like discord. i once mentioned something i drew on flockmod, and got a alert for it, even though i never asked if somebody actually wanted to go there. I would say just to play it safe and try to avoid mentions of those things. Even if its ridiculous.

That doesn't seem very nice… I don't know why ST needs to kick people out for just mentioning the site, that's an overkill.
Anyway, it's likely because it's mostly unmoderated.

At Discord you can PM users and you could bully and moderation is not easy.

I got a warning just for asking someone if they were on Discord. They responded no, and I said, “Ok, now worries.” and the was the end of the conversation but I still got a warning later that ignored the end of the conversation and told me it looked like I was trying to talk them into meeting me there.
The community guidelines specifically state “no linking”, it doesn't say not to mention sites. Yet when you get a warning, that is the information you will be referred to. Confusing, to say the least. If we can only mention certain sites then give us a list of those sites, please.
In the meantime , I suggest just not mentioning other sites here at Scratch. Since my warning, I even quit recommending the Scratch Wiki and removed it from my forum signature because it mentions sites liked Discord. Obviously a terrible solution but I don't want to get other Scratchers in trouble.

It's the “no swearing on my christian server” meme.??? (insert christian server joke here)
My guess is that uninformed people reports the post on the sight of seeing the word “Discord”, followed by uninformed mods who send alerts on the sight of seeing the word “Discord”. Or maybe it's just because it's blacklisted. I got a warning just for asking someone if they were on Discord. Jet fuel can melt steel beams.
It's funny how, when Discord was just getting popular around the internet, many, MANY people were outright posting Discord server invites. This may have been the cause to the blacklist.
