Why are Recolors Allowed?

Remixes are designed to ‘add to the project’ but, well, recolors aren't really ‘adding’ to the project unless the recolor is for a CC or if your doing like patterns on them.

It is more just keeping a project the same way

Also, sometimes recolors are used to be mean or to troll users, i.e. recoloring when a user clearly is annoyed by them

I am just wondering, since some people are highly offended by them…

since a user recently recolored a project I worked VERY HARD ON and didn't even give credit

Why are Recolors Allowed?

They're allowed because if any change is made to a project, then it counts as a valid remix.

True.

I don't see why recolors have to be compared to things man cannot know.

Oh, so does that mean scribbling over someone's hard work is a ‘valid remix’ or deleting everything is a ‘valid remix’?

A remix is valid as long as something is changed. I don't see how Recoloring or tearing up a virtual drawing would be considered offensive.

I don't see how recoloring is offensive but scribbling…? That is messing up someone's hard work, that would be offensive to me.

it could be offensive if a user speicfiically said ‘please don’t recolor'

If someone says “please don't recolor” they're limiting that tiny aspect of creativity, and that's against the Community Guidelines. After all, what if someone does want to recolour it? They may be falsely told that they can't, even though they are 100% allowed to do so.

Why are Recolors Allowed?

If someone recolored one of my sprites or made even a small change to my program, I would be happy. I would like this because I have been the spark for someone else’s imagination. They have put time (even if only a few minutes) to putting a bit of themselves into a program made by me. It shows how you have been inspiring. That is what Scratch is about. We inspire others to change our projects, to make it their own. To take things you have and use it to express themselves.
Even if someone only changes the color of something, they are still showing creativity and imagination sparked by you.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those who know binary and those who don't. “And those who think they do but are still waiting on 8 more people.” (Sigton).

Any remix that changed something, no matter how minor the change is, is allowed on Scratch.

Such a great speech, but seriously, it is true, it shows creativity in the community.

if something is changed, it's a remix, and there is nothing you can do about it, you just have to deal with it.

I didn't come up with these rules. The Scratch Team did. I personally think really minor changes shouldn't be allowed either since they show a lack of effort, but since I'm just an ordinary Scratcher I can't really change anything

Banning Minor Remixes are rejected anyway.

This is why I dislike overprotective artists who will put a copyright label on almost everything they create.

Umm… WHAT! Isn't like they are changing the original project. They can change ANYTHING and it doesn't change ANYTHING in the original. Let Scratchers make their own projects.

but sometimes recolors are used to ‘steal’ people's projects, by recoloring one small thing and saying its allowed because of the CGs allow it

Why are Recolors Allowed?

If they're literally doing nothing other than turning the recolored sprite into a mess of colors, that would be considered disrespectful.
And they're not allowed if someone decides to recolor just to annoy or harass the user.
