Change the way bans work

Okay, so, if a user makes an account to ‘go around a ban’ it is banned, right?

However, the ST assumes all accounts with the same emaill, similar users, or the same network are related, which isn't always true.

Perhaps, when an account is banned for ‘being another user’ state evidince explaining why you think that. That way, the user understands why they believe the ST banned them thinking they were the user.

Or, maybe instead of saying ‘you are this user’ say ‘is possibly this user’ so that way the user is less offended if they indeed aren't that user

Also, under the appeals tab, state "If you are not this user, please tell us so and we will look into the situation and unban your account. If you indeed aren't that user, we send our apologies'

just an idea :3

This is a necessary precaution, but you are right.

However, if you are the one causing the trouble, it's really easy to lie.

I see where you are going with this, but it would only really have use for siblings who were mistaken for being alternate accounts because they share the network/email. It's a good idea, but I don't see it being that helpful using those methods except maybe stating the evidence.

Was it her sibling that got banned and she was accused of having their alternate account?
My point was, I don't see anyways it can be worked out because not everyone is honest

Okay I understand a little more now. I agree that something should be done then. I like the idea of a ‘We have reason to believe you are this user’ message, I think that could help

If you have any issues in regards to an action that was taken by moderators, please contact the Scratch Team. Though rare, it is possible for a person to gain an IP Address that was similar to your friends. The Scratch Team can investigate the issue as soon as they can. https://scratch.mit.edu/contact-us/

That would be mandatory I would assume.

Ask your friend if she was ever given a reason. According to the Wiki, there should have been reasons given. https://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/IP_Bans#Images
Ack, nevermind. I now understand. Giving a reason should be mandatory in all cases.

Consider this already implemented. It's standard procedure for the ST to give the reasons why the account was banned.

Gone.

I recommend that you and other people make their own emails such as making Google accounts and etc.

However, I don't think there is a way to prove that more than one person shares the same email, as users could lie. Now of course, this might seem unfair if you are really telling the truth, but there is no way to operate this.

No Support. Using separate emails will work.

Not everyone is allowed to make separate emails due to parents

How is user2 supposed to know why the ST thought that they were user1

Not everyone is a kid, and some parents can give rights if they want to.

This isn't just a school website, so making separate emails is fine. Just make a Google account or something. Nobody is going to notice it right away.

The accounts are related in a detectable way.

Gone.

But I'm not in this situation. You guys aren't reading my suggestion right, I am suggesting that users who are banned for being an alt account are given evidence as per why this is thought, versus just saying ‘you are their alt account’

This would be for anyone in this situation. Have they used Contact Us to explain to the ST their situation? Why or why not?
