"Music Sharing" Projects
Well, I would think using copyrighted music is fine. It's a kid's website. I don't think the music creator would notice, and if he did, it would be hard to sue a 10-year-old.Don't use copyrighted music. Try getting all of your music from a trustworthy site online or from other Scratch projects. Thanks but I'm still a little panicky about getting an alert, any further information?I'd assume they're completely banning them; the majority of these are just straight-up copyright infringement, and can't be marked under fair use as just playing a song is not usually educational. An animation meme should be OK, and an AMV should also be OK. As long as you're not just making a project for just playing the song and that's it. Good to know! Just to clarify, are you guys just discouraging them or banning them completely?Of course! This is just for copyrighted songs where their owner doesn't want it distributed without permission. However, using a song in an animated music video or video game project can usually be marked as fair use by the Scratch Team, as the person making it is learning with it, but if it's just for the point of reproducing a copyrighted song and sharing it with people… That's just straight-up copyright infringement. If it's your own song, you can choose what you do with it. Simple as that. Alrighty, sounds good…
We can of course make projects with music that we made as the main focus, correct?
Also, it's not the end of the world if you get an alert. It's just a warning.
Which is kinda what happened with Namco but it's most likely not at all happening again.

"Music Sharing" Projects
Hey everyone,
Scratch is a place for learning, creating, and sharing creative works made by Scratchers. Recently, we have noticed a lot of projects on Scratch being used to share music created by someone else. Projects like this do not express the creativity of the Scratcher and are not fair to the original musical artist. Scratchers are welcome to use music created by others in their projects, but they should be sure to use the music to support their own creativity - not as the main focus of the project. So does this mean we can't use music anymore coz i'm trying to add music to my project but its saying unable to convert this mp3 file. what do i do.

this is unfair and unreasonable.
i have a friend whose laptop won't allow her to download music. the only way she gets music in her projects are from projects like these. with these projects now being banned, she won't be able to use quite a few songs anymore.

As long as the main point of the project is something other than showing off music that isn't yours, you're fine.~~~~ -snip-
Clarification of something is required: Are projects with other things such as scrolling pictures and buttons that change costume to play the music allowed?

What does that meanThanks!Of course. Okay, that's fine. What if it's your own music that you recorded? Is that okay? It's only music-based projects that are being unshared. AMVs are fine. -snip-
But don't I need copyrighted music to make an AMV?(I'm planning to make one)

Seems fair to me, these projects are breaking copyright law. this is unfair and unreasonable.

If she really needs to get music, she should just find a project that uses a particular song.
Gone.

It is fair. It's not all music sharing projects, just music sharing projects that don't give any credit to the musician. this is unfair and unreasonable.

EDIT: Actually, come to think of it, it's not really that fair. I don't want to see people like RCMusic get banned. I'm changing my stance. So here's my final verdict: Projects that don't give credit should be banned, but we should probably not ban music sharing accounts because banning someone for posting fire beats isn't at all a good solution.

Looks like the music tag will be pretty much obsolete.
No, I'm pretty sure people will still use it for music videos and stuff.

No, because you can share your own music, not others'. Looks like the music tag will be pretty much obsolete.

You can use this website as long as you can find the song on YouTube.
