Discuss this website in which professional yet biased people rate pop culture based on content appropriateness. Oh, and it's where overprotective parents complain about works which are kid-friendly.

Decided to make this topic because of people discussing Common Sense Media on the video game rating topics.

I decided to take a look at it:
I don't see anything that wrong about it…

One time, on the Scratch parent reviews, I saw this totally wrong review stating that Scratch was adult because of the usage of “butt” and project about animal abuse (I think that was Pig Boxer). It was later removed, probably because it was by a troll.

Positive messages for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe;
Can foster, spur on friendly competition, healthy socializing, strategic cooperation.

Positive messages for WipEout Omega Collection;
Win races at any cost.

Clearly somebody hasn't played Mario Kart, where competition can get so intense that it makes WipeOut look like child's play. Both of these games can get maddeningly difficult, but they're awesome with friends. They both boil down to the same “win at all costs” mentality; who else has backed up to catch somebody in a Blue Shell or rammed another ship against a wall?

I think they're very rational/lenient when it comes to books, probably because they want kids to read. No book has ever gotten an 18+ rating, and very few are even 17+.

They rated Fangirl 14+ even though there's this edgy scene…

Same with the Fault in Our Stars.

Sometimes they rate games below the ESRB rating.
They said LoZ: Twilight Princess had “mild combat and wonderful puzzles” or something along the lines of that. They gave the game a 12+ rating.
Note that the game got a blood rating by the ESRB, but no blood was mentioned my Common Sense Media.
I've never played the game and I don't plan on playing it any time soon. The top-down Zelda games are good enough for me.

The Last Guardian was rated T and actually got a 9+ rating.

Why did they rate Minions 5+? I watched that movie 2 times and it was pretty violent for a five year old to watch. They rated Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 7+ although the violence in that game are just people throwing shells and bombs in a cartoony way.

Minions also had lots of crude/adult humor.
MarioKart 8 Deluxe had a obscene gesture with the Inkling Girl, but it was removed. Maybe the game's difficulty?

What kind of game is “The Last Guardian”?

It's an action-adventure game. It's rated T for “Fantasy Violence, Blood”. CSM noticed that there were only a few bloodstains and praised the game's positive messages.

Some other strong parallels from the ESRB rating:

Braid: Rated E10+, CSM gave it a 14+
Mirror's Edge: Catalyst: Rated T, CSM gave it a 10+
No Man's Sky: Rated T, CSM gave it a 10+
Professor Layton and the Curious Village: Rated E, CSM gave it a 12+
The Sims 2: Rated T, CSM gave it a 16+

I saw the Professor Layton one…
Isn't that just a puzzle and brainteaser game?

First off, the ESRB discussion is only ESRB. No PEGI, USK, etc., only ESRB and VGA.
