Download Projects As Exe Files so they can be run independently

Could you guys please add in a functional option to be able to download a project as an exe file? I know this has probably been suggested lots of times but if you could actually DOWNLOAD it as an exe instead of downloading it as a scratch sb2 file then you could do more things with it!!!!

It's already possible. Just convert the .sb2 to .sb and put it into a .sb to .exe converter. (I know. It is a lot of work to get a different type of file.

Well I would think it would be perfectly possible to write a converter without the ST seeing as how all the images and sound files as well as all the blocks are stored easily.

I agree with this argument. It would be a very nice feature and would allow scratch games to be distributed to many people without having them get on scratch.

No support, scratch isn't a game maker, its a beginning programming language, people just use it to make games. Its like calling BATCH programming a virus maker, it can be used to make viruses, but that's doesn't make it a virus creator.

The point with that is though, doesn't every other programming language have a way to export it? Java/Eclipse for instance - Many different export methods. The whole idea of a scratch to exe converter would be so people would be able to convert their projects to a stand-a-lone, runnable “program” for instance. Just for the fun of it.

But would having it for the sake of having it, be the same as having a “no remixing” button for sake of having it?I just don't see it as being all that useful, most projects (and sorry for any offence to anyone over this) aren't all that worth being put into an .exe file. Most aren't even games, its like saying a flash animation would be better as an .exe file than a .swf file.

The ability to export as EXE files is one that has been suggested by many, and some have developed ways to create pseudo-standalone executables which are really Scratch projects bundled with the Scratch software. If an ability to create standalone executable was added into the 2.0 editor, it will most likely fall along this route since Scratch projects need the editor to be run.

Thanks for the bump — this is rejected.

The Official List of Rejected Suggestions wrote:

2.5 Official Scratch to EXE converter
On Scratch, an important goal is to have anyone be able to look at the code for any project. This philosophy is not only important for learning code and remixing, but is also important for moderation purposes; for more information, see #3.2 and #4.1 on this list. Converting to EXE (or any other black box executables) will prevent users from looking at the code, and hence goes against this philosophy. Third party converters do exist, and you can use those, but an official one made by the Scratch Team will not be made.
Keep thinking of ways to improve Scratch!
