I have this problem too, I just shared a project yesterday and the thumbnail is just the scratch cat. I tried switching browsers, accounts, etc… Yet I can't change the thumbnail!

Try making a script so that when the thumbnail is active, the sprite is set to hide.

Has Scratch experienced server lag in the past? If so, how long did it take before everything went back to normal?

And is it something that has to be fixed, or does it go away on its own?

Yeah, so if you ever change a studio thumbnail or your profile pic, press Ctrl+F5 afterwards. Also press it if you see your old pic anywhere.

Studio thumbnail (a GIF) froze up and won't show the whole GIF, is that part of this problem?

Studio has 99 curators, 24 projects, and 204 comments (as of right now) in case that has an effect.
That's the only serious instance of this glitch I've experienced.

I am having the same problem. My profile picture is a gif, but it will not move like it's suppose to.
