Dropblock Games [NOT ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS]

WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL DROPBLOCK GAMES TOPIC - WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING MEMBERS
See our studio! - http://scratch.mit.edu/studios/213423/projects/

Dropblock Games is a collaborative Scratch team working on creating awesome projects. Our main focus is innovative projects featuring the cloud to allow for player interactions. We are currently not accepting new members. No matter how awesome you are and how much you want it. Sorry. :'(

Members
Members are people who have applied to join Dropblock Games and have been accepted to help to create our awesome projects. We may get help from other Scratchers in specialised areas, and these people will receive credit, but will not be listed as members of Dropblock Games and have no commitments to further help with game design.

Owner
This rank only contains myself, of course. I lead all Dropblock Games project, regardless of who the lead developers are, and will assist in deciding the direction that all projects will take, whether I am developing or not.
  • EdgeGamer
Assistants
These are the awesome people, and the ones who involuntarily do my work when I burn myself out from Scratch.
  • Dracae
  • Savaka
Members
These people are standard members of Dropblock Games who assist in everything from game design, graphics, programming, music and more!
  • hppavilion
  • Babissimo
  • braxbroscratcher
  • zekrom809

Current Projects
Our only project currently in development is Dropblock Games Central, a unique, never before seen minigame hub which will allow players to access a wide variety of minigames, and use the points they earn in those games to gain access to even more! Players will also have the ability to compare each others achievements, able to search for specific Scratcher and view their points, achievements, and more!

THE SECTIONS
The sections are the categories that this project is split up into. People don't have to work on any specific section, and can work on one section and still help here and there with others! As long as you're contributing, we're happy!

MINIGAME SECTION
Anybody working on this section is focusing their efforts on creating minigames. This means making full minigames that can be put straight into the hub. This will soon include adding realistic scores, but is not an issue right now.

HUB SECTION
This section is focusing on the home screen, the options screen, and the games store. This is basically the OS part of the project.

CLOUD SECTION
This section will focus on the cloud aspects of the project. This means leaderboards, and figuring out how DB Points will work.
What is a minigame, and how do I make one?
A minigame, for us, is a game that only ends when a certain defeat condition is reached. Until then, players gradually gain points. All minigames must include the following:

  • A title screen, including instructions on how to play the game and a button to go back to the hub (doesn't have to function)
  • A ‘You Lose’ screen, including a button to go back to the title screen, a play again button, and a button to go back to the hub (again, this doesn't have to function quite yet)
  • Neverending gameplay, with gradual increase in points earned by players
The Idea Pile
Get ideas for minigames!

  • A car game in which players must avoid obstacles in a top down adventure
  • The reaction test - click certain keys on the keyboard as they appear on the screen (in time with music?) - idea needs refining
  • Ever played those stacker arcade games where you have to stack the blocks to the top? That game where you start with a row of three and go as high as you can without missing? That, but infinite - only make if you know what the heck I'm talking about.
The Great Minigame Pile
All finished and WIP minigames go here!
  • Specus Rector (WIP) (EdgeGamer): Another copter/flappy bird game An exciting and unique game in which you fly a helicopter through a cave and avoid hitting rocks
  • Drop (Dracae): You drop. And you drop. And you drop some more ‘cos that’s what you do. You drop.

Dracae, I have a job for you. I was editing your hub to improve it buy adding the options screen, but I'm messing it up and it glitches out because of the way that you have coded it. Can you do me a favour and make it so whenever the state is set to Options all of the stuff from The hub screen vanishes. I've managed to make the Options button vanish but whenever I try to make other stuff vanish all of your pesky clones spread out… Weird.

Wow, you're pretty good! Just a note, Dot Collector isn't a mingame. Please read our criteria. Am I correct in assuming that Catastrophe is infinite? If so, it fits our minigame criteria pretty much perfectly, and we'd love to use it! Maybe a few tweaks could be made, but overall, great job!

Of course we do? I think? Whats a licencecd game?

Also, can the name not be “Dropblock - The Final Topic”
Make it something like “DROPBLOCK GAMES COLLAB - Now Hiring!”

I'm just making things clear for the time being, and I'll change it later

Kalakuh has been accepted I'm expecting big things from you, though, because most people who have applied to join our colab just get inactive

Okay, so Kalukah, you need to work on making your ‘Catastrophe fit the criteria in the opening post, regarding title screens and whatnot. Once that’s done, we'll have a REAL minigame on our hands. That doesn't happen often.

Dracae's priority is to fix the error that I mentioned above by remixing my remix of his project. Then he should work on adding menus and such to blast.

In other news, I'm gonna provide some more info regarding minigames. Players will have access to Blast, Specus Rector (I'm working on that one) and something else. MAYBE Drop (Dracae is working on it), but only if we get desperate. All other minigames will be purchased with in-game currency. Catastrophe will certainly not be a starting minigame, considering it's probably gonna be just an upgrade to Blast, which people may want. Or they may not. I don't really care XD

And yes, I'd also like to know what is meant by ‘licensed game’

If you mean like copyright all rights reserved or public domain or something you can't do that if you share your project. All shared Scratch projects are shared under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license.

Okay, I'll start working with that after my game to GreenConsole's Tournament is ready

TO EDGEGAMER:
Stuff to do to get this started:
  • Add me as a curator so I can add my projects
  • Add an idea pile
  • Add the minigame requirements: “Your minigame must have a title screen and a game over screen. There must be some sort of points system, and the game must go on forever until the player achieves some sort of defeat condition. Once the minigame starts, there should be some sort of pause before the game truly begins, like a countdown. This is less important for some games, but for games like Blast, this is needed. I want EVERY member to have a minigame done and submitted at some point soon.” (this is the old one, feel free to modify)
  • Add the hub to studio and add link
  • Add the 2 signatures
EDIT:
yeah

Ok, I'm here. I've decided that our best course of action is to split the project into 3 manageable sections:

MINIGAME SECTION
Anybody working on this section is focusing their efforts on creating minigames. This means making full minigames that can be put straight into the hub. This will soon include adding realistic scores, but is not an issue right now.

HUB SECTION
This section is focusing on the home screen, the options screen, and the games store. This is basically the OS part of the project.

CLOUD SECTION
This section will focus on the cloud aspects of the project. This means leaderboards, and figuring out how DB Points will work. Speaking of which, I was thinking of one idea - could it be possible that there is one big cloud list of people's DB Points? Like, my score could be item 6, and Dracae's could be 7. This seems like the only form of cloud data that can be changed in size by a player's actions (joining the game) obviously we can't have 10 cloud variables of people's scores, what if 11 people joined?
