Don't.Eliminate.Fame.

Fame on Scratch is a very debatable topic, but I strongly believe we should keep it. Children will be more likely to do things if they can become famous because of it, so if you eliminate fame, some scratchers will quit. They may think no one likes their projects, but people do, they just can't tell scratchers because Fame is eliminated. Also, the equivalent of fame for games in real life is sales, and if a game has no sales, the people who made it might lose their jobs! If you don't know if people like your project, they might hate it, so you could have poor sales as a developer of real games! Lastly, it's always nice to know someone besides you likes the project you worked so hard on. So whatever you do, don't eliminate fame.

I don't think that's going to happen. All of the things that give fame on scratch are useful for not-being-famous. The problem with fame is that it that people tend to get very frustrated when “everybody else” is getting millions of views and they can't get more than 2 or 3.

What are you suggesting? Fame exists, whether we like it or not. People say

because it's not. But that doesn't mean we're getting rid of it, it just means that the goal of Scratch is to learn how to code games and move on to Snap! or Python.

I was so persuasive! In reality, people who use Scratch ONLY for fame are paranoid. At least 2 or 3 views are better than nothing, and if you enjoy your projects, and least SOMEONE enjoys them. I'm trying to say: people shouldn't use Scratch ONLY for fame, but fame should never be eliminated.

I'm just saying my side of the debate.

Well, if it's not a suggestion, then it shouldn't be in Suggestions, right?

I'm just providing reasons for why not to eliminate fame, so it's technically a suggestion.

I think you've totally misinterpreted what exactly the fame shenanigans is about:

-Fame is a byproduct of a site that involves Social Media aspects
-Scratch is a programming website with a Social Media concept,
Fame is part of Scratch
-The sole purpose of Scratch is not to gain fame.
-People who believe so are taking the wrong approach.

Fame is a byproduct, Scratch is about fame, but that is not the purpose of Scratch.

Tl;dr (to those who are confused):

Scratch is a softcore Social Media website, it has a byproduct of fame; therefor, fame is part of Scratch and that's what a part of it is about. Scratch solely is about programming and learning, fame will motivate you, but adding more fame based things will not help.

Fame ain't leaving!

So are you saying fame is part of Scratch, but not it's purpose? It's okay if you aren't.

I think that's what he's saying. See colored material.

Don't worry - I think we are pretty happy with the balance we currently have on the site - although we continue to work to improve how the site showcases projects and connects Scratchers. We recognize that the social aspects of the site do act as an incentive for Scratchers to continue learning and sharing. However, we also try to encourage Scratchers to not get too carried away with the pursuit of fame

If you have specific suggestions for changes you think would improve Scratch in this area (or other areas), please feel free to make a new topic and explain them fully.
