I was interested in the kind of systems that the various AT'ers were sporting today. I've had a look around and can't seem to find an existing post for this, so I thought I'd make one myself.

Use this template if you wish.
CPU(s):
GPU(s):
Monitor:
Motherboard:
Chassis:
Memory:
Storage:
Power Supply:
OS(es):
Other:

I suppose I should start:

CPU(s): Intel i5-4670
GPU(s): Sapphire R9 Fury
Monitor: ASUS VX229H
Motherboard: Gigabyte B85M-D3H
Chassis: Corsair 200R
Memory: Kingston HyperX Genesis 16GB (4 x 4GB)
Storage: Western Digital Black 1TB
Power Supply: Corsair CS650M
OS(es): Windows 10 (64-bit)
Other: 1TB redundant (mostly cold) storage on separate server

I operate on a microwave.

Just kidding! I don't really keep track of my computer specs, because I've never been able afford the luxury of building my own. I can talk about my favorite OSes all day, though. I absolutely love Arch Linux and Linux Mint. Kubuntu is great, too.

There's two main computers I use.

Form Factor: Laptop/Ultrabook (I've never been much for marketing buzzwords, so it might actually be something else.)
CPU: Haswell i5 4xxxU (No complaints here, works fine)
GPU: Intel Iris 5xxx? (Fine for desktop use, not great for gaming but it kinda works)
Screen: “Retina” 13in 2560x1600 IPS display (Easily the best part of it, it makes using other screens difficult. Go for 1440p/IPS if at all possible)
Storage: 128gb PCI-E SSD (Speedy but small, get a bigger one if you can.)
OS: Just MacOS (I kinda wanna dual-boot but the storage available makes it a bit difficult.)

and

Form Factor: Desktop (custom built, shared so I technically don't have admin rights but I know all the passwords so…
CPU: Some i3 2xxx (Not great. Not the worst possible, but see if you can get more cores.)
GPU: GTX 750Ti (Probably the saving grace of the thing, makes gaming possible)
Screen: Some cheapo 1366x768 rubbish. (Get at least 1080p. And good colours. And get one bigger than a laptop screen. The only saving grace is that the low res lets the low-end GPU do more)
Storage: 1tb mechanical. (I think it's sub-7000rpm. And I've been spoiled by SSDs. Don't get mechanical hard drives.)
OS: Windows 10. (Works fine, and it's not mine, so I won't dual boot)

Despite all my complaining, both of them work absolutely fine. Neither of them are perfect, but they are both fairly recent mid-rangeish machines that work fine.

To be honest, I'm not really interested in this kind of hardware stuff. I more-or-less know my way around it, but I find it really dull, a rich man's exercise in finding the biggest number. What's inside the case is much less important to me than what's outside it, which is why the comments on the screens are the longest. I'm also considering picking up a cheap mechanical keyboard (Lemel/Acer 6311-TW, if anyone's counting), as my laptop's keyboard is pretty good, but a bit small for my liking, and my desktop's keyboard is some $20 comes-free-with-Windows rubbish.

If you're really used to Ubuntu siblings, (as coc4tm seems to be) it isn't always the best choice for proficiency.
Definitely with you on the fun side, though!

If anyone's curious:

I have a retina Macbook Pro (mid-2012), with two external monitors (a 27“ Dell in landscape, a 24” Dell in portrait – hipster-style! (posh monitors are totally worth it if you're going to be looking at ‘em for hours, and they last forever, unlike most tech purchases)). I bought a vertical mouse (a ZeleSouris one, for the interested) and a mechanical keyboard (Matias, US-layout–lol) with no numpad – because numpads are terrible things. I -also- have a Magic Trackpad 2 on the left of the keyboard, not because I’m left-handed but because scrolling and zooming are so much easier on one. (The posh keyboard and mouse are to alleviate wrist pain I started getting fifteen months ago. What can I say? I code too much )

I also have an old Dell workstation with twin xeons (dual CPU, two quad cores – shows its age!). It used to run Arch, until I realised I was spending more time maintaining an operating system than actually using my computer or writing code, so I upgraded my Mac.

I have a 13-inch 2010 Macbook Pro with no upgrades besides the fact that it's running OSX 10.8. I replaced the screen after my sister dropped a glass of water on it. I ripped the z-key off after my friend convinced me they were reattachable (they are, but not the way I ripped it). The d-key only works about half the time. The disk drive hasn't worked in years but I've rarely needed it.

It's not macOS Yosemite, it's OS X Yosemite. However macOS Sierra is right, not OS X Sierra.
