OMG, it's so painful to go on these forums...

It is so sad how every time I come to the suggestions forum I'm met with a smack in the face with post after post of non-constructive content.

The only issue is, I feel like if I reported it people are going to look down on me, ST won't read it, etc.

What I'm proclaiming is completely catoragizing any post simply doing any of these things:

-Harboring just a Support/Semi/No without a reason
-Simply quoting a post
-Putting “^^^^” under a quote

As a direct violation of the community guidelines. Because it literally says to be constructive on Scratch. You are in no way constructive saying above. I want to be sure the community and ST is ok with this being reported.

Things to note:

-I'm not asking a banning of using the word “support” with proper reasons.
-This only happened because no one feels like reading the sticky here or the CGs
-I want a response from the ST

1. Whenever I No/Semi-/Support a suggestion, usually I'll give a reason. If I don't it's likely because the OP gave my reason of supporting/no/semi- or because of these two other points.

2 and 3. When I ‘simply quote a post’/'put ^^^^ under a quote', it means that I agree with the above reason. Would you rather that I state the reason again to add reason spam (Yes, reason spam.. Don't judge me. )?

I don't think you get being constructive Scratcher1002.

At least say that you support because clear reason even if it's repetitious. It's non-constructive to just quote something/^^^^ or not even put a reason.

I know that it's hupocritical of me as well; most of us have done it. I feel that's simply because we learn the poor “support” doctrine which is really bad; bad enough the ST hates it.

I agree with you because I have seen this happen quite often. I have also found that people will post mean comments but then say “no offense” even though all they meant was offence. I have often wondered what happened to If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all. I have often found many forums to be unconstructive and would wish that there was something someone could do about it.

I agree with 2, but for number 1, saying support implies that you agree with the original poster, and number 3 implies you agree with the quotes post.

Actually, that's the regular catch with (no offense). It's when the person knows it will cause offense and doesn't mean to hurt their feelings.

But that doctrine is a good one. You shouldn't be posting anything if you don't have anything to add.

You agree for what reason? None, it's spam. Therefor should be reportable.

“Agreeing” doesn't add to the suggestion. In fact ST prefers (right?) that you state a reason why; I don't want to hear another “agree with reasons in OP” argument because that doesn't disprove why you should state a reason.

I agree for the reasons in the OP. It shows the ST that people agree that this should be added.
Ill support it if they add an upvote button, which is suggested somewhere but I don't feel like searching for it.

Yes, an up vote button would definitely improve the constant issue of spam.

No, I mean that people will intentionally insult you and then say ‘no offense’ so that if you report them, the ST will think that they really meant ‘no offense’. It is just like saying something mean then saying JK. If they meant ‘no offense’ then they would not agree with someone else who said the same thing.

No, there is only an upvote, and all that means is that you agree. They, you dont have to post that you agree.

I've been arguing for a long long time against these ban posts, and arguing with the upvote/support buttons for a while now. Problem is, in both topics there are people against and people with them.

By banning these kind of posts you're going to remove a lot of great ideas for getting constantly pushed in the front page of the Suggestions more. You cannot see which suggestion is liked more or is disliked more.

By adding (no) support buttons, according to some people, you remove constructive criticism, people will not bother to post, which I don't really see possible. If you want to say something, you press the button then post, or the other way around, or maybe even not press any buttons if you're neutral or semi support.

I've just given up on fighting for these things, because with these posts constantly having 50/50% support all the time, I'd prefer people to just leave this problem alone, as it's probably not going to be fixed.

People think they need to get a support or no support on every suggestion, but really all the Scratch Team needs is exactly why they should be spending their time and effort on this idea.

Thus Sheep_maker make my point:

The ST won't add something because all you say is “support” they're going to add it because there is a good reason behind it. Say everyone supported an ignore list (for mostly poor to no reason). Now we have something that would clearly cause different views of the site which the ST doesn't want.

You are unable to see who likes it because we don't know why they like it. You don't like an idea just because you like it. That's just not how the human brain works. You start liking something for a reason; it can be small or large. Yes, younger people have less reasoning ability than older; but isn't it good to instill proper practice? I thought the 20 rants about Scratch instilling bad practices meant something, now I'm making one, this time for the greater good in child mentality.

What if the reason I agree to it is stated in the OP?

Then re-state it so people know why exactly you support it. No one really knows what you're supporting it for if you just put “in OP” or anything along the lines of that.
