Deleting Comments (Read the whole post first before saying your opinions)

There should be a way to delete your own comments outside of your profile, and projects and studios.

Now first of all….

Please put away all your “swords”, and “pitchforks” and keep reading.

Credit to Failord for that.

Ok, now that this is out of the way, I shall continue.

Now, I know that this suggestion has been rejected, so that is when my solution comes in.

Now, my suggestion is this: There should be a button that says “request to delete” on the comment visible only to the scratcher who made that comment. When the Scratcher clicks the request to delete button, he will need to type in a reason why she/ he wants his/ her comment deleted. Then, the message will be sent to the Scratch Team.

If this was implemented, can mean scratchers post hate comments and get away with it?
Well, lets say that the scratcher posted a mean comment and the request to delete function was implemented. Well, if that scratcher wants his / her comment deleted, he will FIRST need to send a request to the Scratch Team, and that means that the Scratch Team needs to see it. So, if this suggestion was implemented and the mean scratcher posted a hate comment, he will not get away with it. The comment can either be reported, or requested to be deleted. Either way, the Scratch Team is going to see the comment. So no, I am pretty sure that mean scratchers can't post mean comments and get away with it.

Why do I suggest this?
Sometimes, someone might post a comment that may contain typos. In that case, the delete function can be useful so that they can post the comment again, this time without typos.

Thoughts?

Hm, I think it would be better if we could explain why we are reporting a comment, like we do on the Forums. Mean users would report themselves… Eheh.

Exactly.

And what if you want to delete a lot of comments from yourself? It would make moderating the site a lot harder.

If I knew I could delete my comments, I wouldn't put as much effort into typing them and checking them for typos, which would mean I request a lot more comments to be deleted, and this would swamp the moderation staff.

Sometimes, you delete a comment that isn't mean.
A person you know in the real world accidentally puts your real name in a comment. You don't want that. So you delete it.
However, if you had to give a reason, it would be a little awkward.
Good idea anyway.

The only problem I see with this is how the Scratch Team would get flooded with messages of people wanting to delete comments.

What if instead, there was a “request to delete” button where the delete comment would be for the project owner? This would send a message to the owner of the project, which said “@USERNAMEHERE has requested you to delete his / her comment on PROJECTNAMEHERE”

The only problem is then someone could spam someone with delete messages.

*sighs* Everyone is saying that if this suggestion was implemented, it would “swamp the moderation off”.

It seems to me that I made another pointless suggestion. Topic closed by topic owner.
