Screen recorder?
Settings - Broadcast Settings - Mode -> “File Output Only”.Could you help me with that? I just downloaded OBS and I can't find that “record to file” setting. Open Broadcaster Software has a “record to file” mode which works very well (about three times as fast as other screen recorders I've tried![]()
)
To add a “scene” (huh) you have to right click in the sources box, then add something like “Monitor Capture”.

Open Broadcasting Software is fantastic! It's made for livestreaming, but if you set it to just output a file, it will work perfectly.

That'd take forever, plus it's be a pain to make it smooth enough for people to understand what's going on. Why dont you press “print screen” loads of times on GIMP?

But it certainly is useful when you're trying to explain things in steps.

Also I recommend using Ezvid for speed-art videos, but for Let's Plays it's not very good.

I use the Built in windows recording software
If you have a windows computer, you can hold down windows logo (win)
and the G key at the same time. If it doesn't work the first time, then start slamming your hands on the win key and G key and the game bar comes up. Hit the red button and your recording. You don't need to download anything! It also has pretty good recording quality

I used to live broadcast using XSplit Studio. I bought the license though so I don't know any hoops you'd have to jump through to use it for free. Livestreams and records local video files. Works really well.

Screen recorder?
I have found/used many screen recorders such as OBS, Fraps, Bandicam, or Screencast-O-Matic. But the best one I have used is OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) and found that it had the best quality. Plus it's completely free!
