Cloud Data Icon
Worried about running into a scratch project disguised as a game of pong, but later, as you click “See Inside” you see that your username has been submitted into a cloud variable? This is a very simple idea, and I believe this will provide all users with more confidence when browsing projects. My idea is to place the cloud icon below the project icon on the Scratch website on the homepage or when you search for projects. Here is an image of what it would look like on the search page.
View image
This would look the normal grey icon and text with white background, I just put the highlights there for demonstration purposes. The blue highlight is the icon, and the green highlight is the amount of cloud variables used in the project. I think this is really needed in Scratch, and may put some people off exploring projects if not implemented. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and Scratch team, please consider this.

Why does it matter if someone knows your username? It's not like they know your password.

There is also a “WARNING: This project senses usernames!” message when you open a project that senses your username. Also, who cares if someone knows their username. My username is StardustGogeta (crowd is shocked in disbelief).

lol. Does it really matter if someone knows your username? No. So cloud variables can't do anything to harm you. There would be no need to have an icon that tells you that a project has cloud data.

The username is just an example. Also, using the time blocks, you could also determined roughly where you live, and even less roughly using the minutes as well. People who posted above might not care as much as other users, but it's a small feature that really could help some users. Just because not many people would care about it doesn't mean it's not worth implementing. Plus, most of the time you click the green flag even before the warning that this project detects usernames even shows.

But that's why we have the “cloud data log”

I don't see how it could be so hard to implement one simple feature like this, so why is this post receiving so much criticism?

Yea, username doesn't matter. I know your username, it doesn't mean anything.
As for time… they could only figure out your time zone. A time zone covers hundreds of square miles, basically they would know which quarter of the USA you live in. That's not anything to go off of.
The only real damage that can be done is if you provide private information, but you can only give private information if you agree to do so. They can't force that info out of you, just use common sense when someone asks you to tell them something about you.

But if you enter your password into my rigged pong game, you get a bigger paddle. Yea, username doesn't matter. I know your username, it doesn't mean anything.

Yes OK
I agree that the idea is a little pointless. You said yourself ‘roughly were they live’. Tell you what, I'll tell you ‘roughly where I live’ and then you can hunt me down. OK? If you can do that, then you have proven me wrong. 1 timezone can have tons of countries, each with tons of cities, each with tons of streets, each with tons of houses.

But what if the project is a ‘see how secure your password is’ project. It isn't very once they have your username and password stored next to each other in a list!.But if you enter your password into my rigged pong game, you get a bigger paddle. I can't be bothered to make a signature. Seriously, who has time to write these things? I have stuff to do, games to make, and you expect me to write a big, long signature? I'm not your slave. You can't tell me what to do, so no, I WON'T write a signature.
Oh, wait…

Thanks to all the people who understood what I was saying. My point is, if you saw an RPG game or something that asked you for your name and your age, obviously if there was the cloud variable symbol you know something wrong.

This was made in the 2.0 beta, and that doesn't show on search or on the project thumbnail or anything. There is an obvious cloud data icon

Fun_Cupcake_i81: What, were you expecting not to see the utc - 12 thing again? THE UTC - 12 THIGN ALWAYS RETURNS. ALWAYS.
medians: I knew it would happen. I was the one who started it last year.
Fun_Cupcake_i81: Well then if you didn't want it back maybe you need to time travel to last year and fix that
Oh wait if you could time travel I think we all know exactly when you would go-
