Notice the unusually huge number of views for that one topic? That just became over one hundred thousand around when a spambot posted on it about ECU jargon. What's more intriguing is around that time (1:25 am), I was having difficulties loading webpages.

Was this a possible DDOS attack?

Only that topic. But the server is handling it not too badly.

It could just mean that search engines find it particularly index-worthy or spambots think it's a good topic to post on. I doubt that it's a malicious DDoS.

It's probably what jvvg said, possibly also attracting attention from DjangoBB with the title.
And it is an old topic, so that might be something.
