Okay, guys, let's make a real Sonic X-treme! Like, the canceled Saturn game Sonic X-treme!

So, some of you might like the project SONIC XTREME by @tomicool, that's fine, it's an okay game but it's definitely not the original Sega Saturn title. This was canceled years ago, obviously. But…
I think it still has a chance on Scratch, if we do it right.
There are great examples of Scratch 3D in this studio. We even have an example of simple texture mapping. I think we might be able to pull a Sega Saturn style Sonic game off, if we use the right tools!
So, let's at least try!
First things first: we need to figure out how our blue-blurry friend will be in this game!
Should we try to make models based off the models seen here on The Models Resource?
Or should we rip the sprite sheets?
Ripping the sprite sheets would probably be a hard job, but it might be worth it because it may reduce lag!
Then again, we could do a lot with a complete model of Sonic, and it would seem a lot more realistic!

Also, we need a good story.
Okay, so, we're in the time between Sonic&Knuckles (I think, there's 3D blast, but does that game really make any major changes in story?) and Sonic Adventure… Okay, first maybe we should explain how Sonic got his homing attack that he uses in Sonic adventure. We can develop other story around that.
So, how did he get his homing attack? Was it an accident involving the Chaos Emeralds? Let's think…
We could also use the story they were coming up with before cancelling.

And of course, as with any good 3D Scratch title, we need someone with good 3D skills. I think we should use the Scratch 3D engine I sent a link to. It's a good engine, and with some improvements (collision sensing and so-on), it could be a great engine used for more than just this game!

Please don't just tell me it's impossible, I dream BIG about games, okay?

UPDATE: Here's a job list.
1. Sprite sheet ripper: um… currently I will take this job! If I need help, I'll update!

2. 3D Scratch stuff designer: Yeah, so although this game uses pre-rendered graphics and sprite sheets and stuff, you can't pre-render everything if this is a true 3D game. Saturn was a competitor with the N64, you know! So, therefore, I need someone to design levels! If you want to help, just tell me! I'll be coming up with ideas and reusing the original ones!

3. Pre-renderer: I need some new sprite sheets as well as using the old ones! People who have Blender and like using it would also probably like this job! If you would like to help, please let me know so I can tell you what I need for it.

4. Modeler: I've taken this job also! “Modeler” as in “designer of models for pre-renderer to use”, but “modeler” sounds cooler and shorter, so…

So, it seems at the moment that no one wants to help, nor take up the challenge…
Well, after review, I've decided to use the sprite sheets, but ripping them will still be a big process.
I like the idea of two characters I found there, Chaz and Gabby. Although they were intended for a separate game, I think they should be made playable in this one. A separate game will come later, though, if I can figure out why these two don't show up in later games, story-wise. The concept art on Sonic Retro has gotten me thinking on story and how this whole thing will work.

Please, can someone join the team? Or will I be all alone in attempting?

Okay, so here's a more clear idea of the jobs:
1. Sprite sheet ripper: um… currently I will take this job! If I need help, I'll update!

2. 3D Scratch stuff designer: Yeah, so although this game uses pre-rendered graphics and sprite sheets and stuff, you can't pre-render everything if this is a true 3D game. And I guess that's it! I will accept more than one person for some jobs, obviously, because this is a big game. the game may actually be bigger than it was originally intended to be on the Saturn.
Anyway, if anyone reads this, bye!

Okay, guys, let's make a real Sonic X-treme! Like, the canceled Saturn game Sonic X-treme!

So are you planning to make and upload this onto the Scratch website or is it being made on something different altogether? If it's not being made on Scratch, it should be in the “Things I'm Making And Creating” section.
Also, side note, I think this is a very ambitious project. Not to deter you from making it or anything, but this is a rather big proposal.

Here's what I intend to do, all on Scratch:
1: rip the pre-rendered sprite sheets from The Spriters Resource.
2: place them in a 3D world.
3: prepare them for movement and so-on!
4: create a story for it.
5: if it seems too much for Scratch, than convert to .swf file and it should run better!

This may seem like a huge project, but things can't get better if you don't push the limits a little!
Also, perhaps separating the levels into different projects would help?
Please, if anyone is reading, please consider helping!

Thank you.
I must say, though, I think I've decided it shouldn't be on Scratch.
Scratch's 3D stuff looks (most of the time) like the rendering of Star Fox from the SNES. Or like the 32X. The Saturn is really a worthy competitor, I have found, to the N64.
Though most of you here probably don't think that is very good graphics, at the moment it is basically superior graphics to what we have here on Scratch.
We would need a new system for pen-3D if we were going to make a Sonic X-treme with level graphics that were as good as the original could have been.
We might need to decrease the number of displayable pixels. Here's what a Saturn image looks like:
Here (sorry I don't have Image Shack to upload…)!
As you see, we probably need to decrease the number of pixels. This doesn't mean the characters and Badniks and 2D stuff will look worse; they are 2D and should be easy for Scratch to handle!
We could use cloning for each of the pixels. Like this example of 8x12 or so, but with more pixels:
Clone 1. DRAWS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clone 2. DRAWS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clone 3. DRAWS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clone 4. DRAWS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clone 5. DRAWS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clone 6. DRAWS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clone 7. DRAWS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clone 8. DRAWS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That might help some stuff. Not sure.
Okay, it says the image is 320x224. Let's half that to a good 160x112! How's that? We may need to half again, but until someone tries, we won't know!
If you guys think we can do this, then let's at least TRY!
They can laugh at us if we fail, but we will be the ones who can say, “We tried”!
And who knows, this may result in a great new 3D engine!

Maybe to save data, you could make the Sprites 16- bit sized, but still resembling 5th gen consoles.

The 3D models, or the sprites themselves? (By the way, I've actually been getting the sprites from .gif files onto Scratch! It actually wasn't for this game, but in order to try and start making modifications to this! I didn't have, like, ANYONE interested in this idea, so I've started making edits to that. Not major edits, just edits to speed and stuff…)
Anyway, we can still use the 3D engine I sent a link to earlier. It just probably won't look quite as good. What do you think we should do?
Remember, this will be no small project if we get it done. I'm thinking BIG, remember? There will be lots of cool features, and, though this wasn't in the last idea proposed for Sonic X-treme, I would like it to have a character select. Based on an idea I come up with for the goal of the game, there should be 7 characters, as follows:
Sonic (of course!),
Tails (yeah…),
Knuckles,
Amy (what? She hasn't been in a main title since CD!),
Tiara (If you've heard about the story you should probably know…)
Chaz (Okay, who's Chaz? Oh, wait, I just put a link there…),
and Gabby (uh……..^^^)!
Though Chaz and Gabby were intended for a side-project, I think it would be cool to have them in this game, too.
Chaz and Gabby could be Badniks of some sort, and these two out of, well, let's say 100 Badniks, went against Dr. Robotnik, as he should be called here.
These Badniks are like no other Badniks, for they are built to keep up with the pace of Sonic and the others and to take. Them. Down.
But this one Chaz and this one Gabby have gone against Robotnik.
Anyway, the main goal of the game is for each character to get one Chaos Emerald and for them all to get to the Death Egg (yes, the Death Egg!). Once this happens, Tails places a device in the core of the Death Egg and, well, may as well not spoil the story!

Anyway… there will be lots of cool features… and don't forget tossing rings!

Hmm…
How about the ground being a sprite with collision detection, but pre rendered?
Then badniks could appear on its costumes!

Here's an example:
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/156715/ (Btw I didn't make this)

It doesn't have collision detection, but you could base your project off it!

Well… I like the idea of having it actually 3D, and this is the Sega Saturn, ahem. If it is not really 3D, then let's just say this: it won't do justice.
If we can't do it right here on Scratch, then I'll just have to do it somewhere else.
But, I do know two characters who can help us make some good, more 2D levels. Ahem.
Tiara and Amy will be in the same campaign together, and they will feature good-old 2D-like-scrolling levels that we can re-create pretty well in Scratch.
But they will have some more 3D effects, as you can see in the link above, but we can get that done pretty well. Just another way to use this.

https://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/Three_Dimensional_Projects Were going to need to use that. Also if we want sega saturn graphics, we need to convert our projects to .swf for at least 30 frames. We could use git-hub or Google drive to download and upload our edits. If we cant do in scratch then we can port it to python or a 3d game engine.

Hey! I've got some new volunteers! Thanks, guys!
Yeah, something like this pic: HERE. Turbo mode would be of use for increasing how fast the renderer adds pixels. It would also get us away from that kind of odd look that is seen in that picture (things look a bit… bumpy.)
Glad to see some new activity, I was actually just looking at this yesterday!
I am still wondering about going with Scratch for this project, so if you guys aren't sure about Scratch for this, I can start a new thread for the development of the game by editing the OpenGL ports of the real stuff!

turbo mode will be very useful but still not fast enough fro sega saturn graphics at 10+ fps. I was looking around and I found project asxs which is a sonic xtreme re-creation. I guess i can make a 2d plat-former with the level having a fish eye effect and see how that goes.

You can search online how to rig and animate a 3d model in blender… as of now you can install opengl for a chosen language(c,c++,Java, even python)
and find a tutorial for that. I have a python 3d engine that renders a 3d model somewhere on my pc. Notice that programming in opengl and directx is much harder than 2d programming.
