Aghh… Let me sum up my whole rant. I may respond to your quote on this, but otherwise it's it.
I hate this series.
1st reason is the characters. A total of 4 (FLIPPING 4) are USELESS to the plot. Mom, Manny, Dad, and Fregley. Yup that leaves 3 left. Great characters you've got there, book! Also, Greg is just normal, Rodrick is a cliche (Jerky teenage brother? WHAT'S THAT) And as Stuart K. Rielly says: “Oh, so original! That ain't been done before!”
And Rowley. This is the character I really hate. I watch MLP. I watch LPS. I'm 12 and male. AND PEOPLE THINK IM LIKE HIM. It just boils my blood.
2nd part is the plot. It's also cliched. A boy goes to middle school. And does stuff. How's that to a teenage girl who can talk to animals, a studios pony meeting friends, and a girl and her magical eggs who fight off crushed dreams of children. Now which sounds better?
3rd: THERE ARE NO SUPPORTING CHARACTERS.
That is UNACCEPTABLE for these kind of books. You always have a few friends and a teacher, but no. NONE. In LPS, we have 5. FIVE. Roger, Sue, whatever the Asian girls called, and Jasper. Shugo Chara? A WHOPPING SEVEN. MLP? Tons. Tons.
4th is the humor. Let's see MLP first. Twilight going insane. Great, always makes me laugh. Shugo Chara: Tadase in a skirt mean while Yaya is pulling down Kukai's pants. This scene is so weird, and that's why it's funny! LPS? Russell going crazy? Still awesome. DOAWK? Greg getting bullied? How is this funny? How would ANYONE my age find this funny?
And last, these books are being produced too much. Basically, this series is a cash cow because the time recorded in each book is getting shorter! What Kinney is trying to do is make enough books until he goes to collage! That could be about 10,000+ books! That is crazy. Hey Jeff, what are you going to do when Greg goes to collage?
Rant ended. This is the last bad message I'll post here, because my point is across.

It is, to be honest. And I'm saying that even though I own and have read every book in the series up to date. But a lot of series become just big money-makers for their creator after a while. This discussion made me realise something…Movie Diary editions 1 2 and 3Oh yeah.Don't forget the Movie Diary.Meaning the Do-It Yourself book?Plus the extra booksThanks! What do you mean? Look at the Warrior Cats series for example: four series, each with six books in them, and they're currently working on a fifth series. And then there are all of these side books to the series.

Sorry, I could not help myself. It's just that seeing “UNACCEPTABLE” in all caps reminded me of a certain someone from Adventure Time, and I love making references. XD
I'm not trying to diss your rant or anything. In fact, I find you made a lot of good points. No series is perfect.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
the characters you've listed are fairly important to the plot, or at least part of it - his mom is the one who makes him write the diary in the first place, manny is similar to rodrick in that they provide small subplots and jokes like the differences in how mom treats the two, dad has a few entries devoted to him (and it'd make for a very different book if his dad wasn't there - at the very least it would probably address the fact that he only has one parent), and fregley also has some subplots, like the one where rowley and greg have to go through the sewers to escape him and the sleepover scene, which highlights how desperate greg is now that his only friend has abandoned him. That ain't been done before!”
greg is actually a pretty novel character in terms of YA - usually, teenagers in books are way, way smarter (socially at least) and make much better decisions than in real life. diary of a wimpy kid is unique in that greg is kind of a jerk, very self-centered, and makes very few good decisions. this is part of why it's funny - everything that can go wrong, does, which is honestly pretty realistic. rodrick is also unique because he's actually pretty realistic and not just a huge jerk all the time; you can understand why he acts the way he does.
well, that's kind of the point…. I guess if you don't like that there's not really much to say. coming-of-age stories (bildungsroman if you want to be pretentious) are a pretty big thing in literature, though. 2nd part is the plot. It's also cliched. A boy goes to middle school. And does stuff. How's that to a teenage girl who can talk to animals, a studios pony meeting friends, and a girl and her magical eggs who fight off crushed dreams of children. Now which sounds better?
you realize all the characters you listed in point 1 are supporting characters? that's why they don't contribute to the plot a ton…. 3rd: THERE ARE NO SUPPORTING CHARACTERS.

(also that's only 4, and the asian girl is named youngmee, and also I think in shugo chara those are the main characters if you're talking about)

The whole point of the book is that it's supposed to be “realistic fiction.” It's supposed to be able to hit home for many people because many families are like that in real life. It's not “cliche,” it's true.
And Rowley. This is the character I really hate. I watch MLP. I watch LPS. I'm 12 and male. AND PEOPLE THINK IM LIKE HIM. It just boils my blood.
You hate a character because it resembles you?
2nd part is the plot. It's also cliched. A boy goes to middle school. And does stuff. How's that to a teenage girl who can talk to animals, a studios pony meeting friends, and a girl and her magical eggs who fight off crushed dreams of children. Now which sounds better?
Like I said: realistic fiction. It's supposed to be relatable. Ponies and magical girls aren't relatable.
MLP? Tons. Tons.
There is where you're wrong. This book has more supporting characters than you can count. Greg's whole family. Rowley. The kids he hangs around with. It's just like a regular middle school kid's life: survive, get good grades, and most importantly, get the girl. The “characters” are mainly the people that he interacts with, which works for a realistic fiction novel.
It's not meant to be funny. It's meant to hit home for some kids. Like I keep saying, REALISTIC FICTION. It's entirely possible for a guy to get pushed around in middle school, it happens to everyone.
This I agree with. By the way, it's spelled “college.”
Overall though, your points aren't very good. Comparing a satirical realistic fiction children's series to two girly cartoon shows isn't the best comparison at all.

I disagree with this, it's definitely supposed to be funny. that's why people read them. they have jokes. while a lot of it may be depressingly relatable to people who get bullied, I think ultimately greg doesn't really get bullied that much. if you go through the books, a majority of his trouble comes from his own actions or just comically bad luck. for instance, the main conflict in the first book is rowley not being friends with greg anymore, and that's because he made the stupid decision to put the first(?) graders in the hole instead of facing the teenagers who terrorized them at halloween (this is kind of bullying, but it only really happened twice, then the teenagers left greg alone). the only other person who bullies him is rodrick, and it doesn't ever get to anything higher than typical sibling rivalry.4th is the humor. Let's see MLP first. Twilight going insane. Great, always makes me laugh. Shugo Chara: Tadase in a skirt mean while Yaya is pulling down Kukai's pants. Please remember that this forum is for people to share their interests with other Scratchers. It's not a place to put down the interests of others. I'm glad that you go on to provide supporting arguments for your “hate” - but I'd much rather see you post about things that you like.
It's kind of like walking into a room filled with people enjoying a Monopoly game and trying to convince them that they are really wasting their time pushing game pieces around a board. Sure, you might have some good arguments - but it's really rather rude.

But you didn't have to say you hated it. If you hate it fine, but don't come on here and just say it's stupid. It's okay to say why you don't like the series but if your gonna bash on it and say you hate it then get off this topic. I don't think that MLP and LPS and Shugo Chara are good shows really, but I don't just go onto those topics to complain about them.I CLEARLY SAID that my work here is done!Paddle2See brings up a good point. Some thoughts:
1. You can't compare cartoon shows intended for little girls to realistic fiction intended for middle school boys.
2. Are you sure you're not Rowley? :p (kidding please don't hurt me)
