To start on my programming career, and maybe play a little Minecraft too.
A picture of it:

I have yet to get an SD card and monitor though, so I can't use it yet. I'm probably also gonna get external RAM.

The raspberry pi is awesome. It's great for programming.
The problem is, it requires a little knowledge.
raspberrypi.org has some information that may be useful.
Pros:
Awesome for learning linux and programming!
Cons:
It's a little slow.

Keep us updated with how that goes, I'm curious. A friend of mine bought one for this but it seemed strange to me given that she owned a laptop.

External RAM? How would that work?

Well Minecraft for RPi is free afaik so that might be one reason

Adding RAM to RPi is not possible…

I got one for Christmas, and would have it running now but I fell sick last night and thus was not able to get an SD card for it.

Amazingly, I still have enough money to buy one after recently buying an iPad Mini with Retina display, Smart Cover, and screen protector. I don't know if I will get one though.

Amazingly, (Not really, it's, what, £35?) I still have enough money to buy one after recently buying an iPad Mini with Retina display, Smart Cover, and screen protector. I don't know if I will get one though.
I cannot recommend it more highly than this; IT MAKES COMPUTERING FUN!! Seriously, buy a Pi and you'll never regret it.
