Are there any bands that you like that people wouldn't normally think you like?

I like Katie Melua (Closest Thing To Crazy in particular) and Snow Patrol.

You're not looking in the right places, then. There's a lot of great rappers from yesterday and today, but you won't find them on the charts.

I like a lot of 40's big band/swing. In fact, there are some days where I listen to a lot of that.

My musical horizon is pretty expanded, so I don't surprise a lot of people with the kind of music I'm into. However, I managed to surprise my mom a bit when I was going through a Rascal Flatts phase about a year ago.
