I am making a Welcome to Scratch project and I want to show new people what happens when you report something. I have never had to report a comment so what happens when you report someone?

Report is a message to moderators which you send if you think that something is inappropriate.

It sends to Scratch team and they look at it and delete it if it's bad. Whoever sent the comment will get a warning.

You can also use Report to get the topic moved to a different forum or get it closed so it's not always about there being something wrong.

So when you report a comment, studio or user profile, it is usually sent to the scratch team. If it's bad, the reported CSU gets deleted and the user gets a warning. If it's fine, the reported CSU stays and the user who reported the CSU gets a warning.

I assume in the latter case the person reporting is advised why it isn't a problem rather than given a warning unless they are doing this repeatedly.

What happens if a post gets reported but it's not actually inappropriate?

Well, we want to make sure that people are using the report feature correctly. You wont get a notification all the time, but if we feel that it was clearly ok for Scratch and it seems that reports are being misused, then we'll send a notification.

That said, this is only somewhat related to the original post, which is a few weeks old and has been resolved. It's usually better to make your own thread for a different question that you have, because it keeps down on confusion regarding which question needs an answer still. I'm closing this thread since it was already resolved.
