I know it's not the highest quality anime but Sword Art Online is mostly okay other than a little language and fanservice.
Wow. Uh, more then a little fanservice. As well as some pretty mature themes and violence. The TV-14 rating is more then justified.

I'm pretty sure literally any anime no matter what genre will have dark themes, innapropriate scenes and violence.Nope. I don't remember any of that stuff in Hikaru no Go or My Neighbor Totoro
Whether physical violence or verbal violence, nobody knows.

OMIGOSH! You have a gif from RWBY! Volume 3 just came out, even if there are only three episodes. It is SO AMAZING! Watch it, folks. And mourn Monty Oum.

You can try Pokemon (the manga)
Also, if you're interested in sports manga, I enjoyed The Prince of Tennis.
One Piece isn't that dark, but it is a bit violent, other than that I would recommend it too.

AAAAAAAAASorry, I'm not a big fan. Let's not talk about that show. It replaced Hunger Games as my least favorite series. Why? I'm coping with my discovery, and it's getting in the way of all my work. And somehow, even though Hunger Games killed off more characters, it didn't drop me into an apathy coma over the summer.
Long story short, I became an absolute cynic just from discovering that series. I haven't even seen it and it did this to me.
Undeserved and irrational negativity aside, I wanna watch Log Horizon. I don't know the age ratings, but I know it's similar to SAO but not as dark; basically SAO without permadeath. ‘Course, I haven’t watched it yet since I'm still in my apathy slump, and I already ranted too much on that…

No Game No Life is a little inappropriate (not long periods of time) but if you over look that it is a really good anime (i am not thrilled at inappropriate stuff but i really liked it)

RWBY, RWBY and… RWBY.
Seriously though, Teekyuu is a bit fanservicey but it's dumb and funny. I like it, but most people probably won't. TV-14
Squid Girl is pretty much completely family friendly other than a few infrequent very mild swears, the fact that it's set on a beach (i.e swimsuits), and one character who's a girl obsessed with Squid Girl is sort of er, inappropriate ways. Nothing openly s*xual in any way though, and it's really funny, cute and entertaining. TV-PG
PonyoPenguin is actually right, SAO is very iffy. One moment it's light hearted and cute, sometimes it's action, and the next moment… death and mature themes for all! It's a pretty good show in my opinion, though. TV-PG to 14
There's also some shows that are anime-eqsue and are also really good.
TOME is a great example. It's a VRMMO show that is kind of about Sword Art Online, but with a focus on hackers (the antagonists) and the main four characters, Alpha, Kirbopher and Nylocke. It has slightly less mature themes that Sword Art Online and NO fanservice… but it also has a lot of swearing in season 2. I donated to the show and got my own character in it, so that's cool. Unrated (Probably TV-PG for the first season and TV-14/MA for the second)
I'm pretty sure you've watched Steven Universe. It's very anime inspired (it would basically be a magical girl show if it wasn't for Steven). It gets pretty serious sometimes though. TV-PG.
Did mention RWBY? TV-PG.

What I've seen of School Rumble I thought was really funny. The first season is rated TV-PG and has some mild swearing and occasional innuendo.
Season 2 is TV-MA on the DVD, but TV-PG on YouTube. To be honest I think TV-14 is about right, it's a bit raunchier (one episode has an extended gag about a character giving away dirty videos) and has a comical Battle Royale-esque arc with some bloody violence.
…Oh! Comic Party. Comic Party was my favorite anime for years. How could I have forgotten about Comic Party? My DVDs say 13+ but that's mostly for a bonus OVA you don't have to watch with some nudity. The show itself just has occasional use of very mild profanity and an episode with mild fanservice that is portrayed negatively (two creepy guys harassing a cosplayer).

Toradora if you like romance. Your lie in April if you want to cry. Anohana also if you want to cry. Death Parade is kinda mature but it can also make you cry. Himouto umaru-chan if you like comedy. Lucky star if you like slice of life comedy. No Game No Life may be a little, well… but it's so freaking good! Also did I say Toradora? Yeah you should really watch Toradora. If you don't like that then… watch Toradora instead. Pretty much watch Toradora.

A good slice-of-life anime is Sketchbook ~full colour's~. However, if you're into action anime, then don't watch it. But it's a nice lil' show about an art club.
