-A Colour Divide Story: Elysia-

-A Colour Divide Story: Elysia-

My name is Elysia. I am your average Aurorean.
Or, at least, that's what I'm supposed to believe.

I live in the city of Aurora, Land of Colour and Magic. I was twelve when I took the test, and I was supposed to be placed into Gold. That's when everything fell apart.

I live with my father. My mother passed away once I was born, giving me my name. After all, the afterlife was called Elysium, but my name should have been a coincidence. My mother's death was hard on my father the most, for I never knew her, and yet, he did his best to raise me. We lived on the outer farms of Aurora, along with most of the Auroreans ranked Red. Even if we were poor, my father always found some way to send me to school to become an apprentice. I was a slow learner back then, but by the age of eight, my power increased dramatically. I sometime had no control over it and once set the whole farm to sleep, livestock as well. That's what tipped me over the edge: My ability to control how vulnerable my opponent was. I was dangerous to Aurora, as I was lead to believe. I could make people pass out without trying, or even send someone into a coma if I was angry enough.
When I took the test, the Testers shifted in their seats. My hands shook uncontrollably as I had the worst hallucinations anyone could ever have-Personal fears that nobody else would know. It was like looking Death right in the face. It was Death.

I wanted, needed a Colour. I didn't want to be banished. I wanted to stay with my father, to stay home. That was what Aurora was to me: Home. A place I could confide in for safety and shelter. That was what it was supposed to be.

All that changed when I realized the truth behind the Magicians.
___

Chapter 1: Big Day

“Elysia, we're going to be late!” Urged Clarity, a short haired, brunette beauty.

“I know, I know,” retorted the blonde girl as she fixed her hair in the mirror.

“Come on, it's the big day! The Test is the most important part of Aurora. It deci-”

“It decides the course of your entire future, blah, blah, blah. All I want is to stay in Red.”

“But your powers….”

“Are so seemingly great. I get it. You want me to become a Magician or at least raise ranks, but I just want to be content with my father, alright? And if I show that I have dangerous power… That last girl who the Magicians thought was dangerous….”

“Your powers are both amazing and dangerous, but it depends if you want to learn to control them.”

“I almost put you in a coma, or even worse, death. I don't want to risk showing it off.”

Clarity pouted and grasped Elysia's shoulders. “Then try to control it.”

“And if I can't?”

“Then knock yourself out. Better off Red than banished or dead, right?”

“Yeah… Speaking of banishment, have you ever wondered what's out there….?”

“Shush.”

“But I-”

“From childhood, we are taught that only the end awaits us out there.”

“But there's got to be more than the life behind these walls…”

“And that is a life not worth living for me. Now, come on. We've got a long day ahead of us.”
___

Chapter 2: The Test

“You may begin,” announced the first Tester, a Gold Magician.

Elysia looked at the pillar before her and reached out.

She appeared in a green field, but everything around her started wilting. This was a fear: Being unable to do anything.

“Stop them from dying,” said the voice of the Tester.

Her mind searched for a way to help the plants. It was frantic thinking, going over every spell, every enchantment.

But if I show my true power…

“Stop them from dying.”

Wait… This is like a dream… And if this is like a dream, then I should be able to manipulate it without magic….

The flowers stopped wilting and went back to their original state.

Next, she appeared on an old rope bridge. Clarity was there.

She forgot she was hallucinating.

“Claire, what are you-”

The bridge snapped.

Clarity screamed, her holding onto the swinging bridge with one hand. Elysia stared at Clarity and was about to reach out to her, until she saw her father on the other side.

“Who will you save? Your friend or your family?”

Elysia panicked. Both, she thought. Both. Her power wasn't helpful at the moment. It seemed depleted when she tried to summon it.

The remaining part of the bridge snapped.

Both.

Without trying, her magic acted as a reflex, carrying both her father and friend to safety.

And then there was the last stage. The worst fear.

She awoke, the Testers looking at her. “Colourless.”

Gaurds grabbed her arms as she struggled and cried out. “No. No…!”

Anything but banishment. Banishment was worse than death itself.

Her heart pounded, her head sore. This had pushed her too far. Now she was angry.

“STOP!!!”

The hallucination stopped abruptly. It was a hallucination. She looked around, seeing the Testers fast asleep.

“No….” She shook them, but they didn't flinch.

Racing out of the building, she saw what she had been trying to avoid all her life: The sleeping bodies of the Auroreans, all of them.

The whole city was sent to sleep.

That was, everyone but the Magicians.

The Magicians, of course, had their castle locked up tight with every spell, every enchantment and guarded by every loyal creature they could find, and, that included anti-sleeping spells.

Although some of the magicians were affected with a soothing but dizzying moment, the most powerful ones weren't.
___

Chapter 3: Into The Unknown

Elysia ran over to a body lying on the floor. “Claire… Claire…. Please… Wake up…!” She sobbed. She reached a hand over to her friend's neck, checking her pulse. “You're… You're alive!”

She ran over to another person, again checking their pulse. “You're all alive! Just… Asleep… How do I wake you up….?”

Thank God that I used to take first aid classes, Elysia thought as she took some smelling salts from her pocket. They were always there for ‘just-in-case.’ Now, just wift it around her- And she heard footsteps behind her.

She whirled around to see the Magicians surrounding her.

“Why are you awake?” One of the asked her.

“I-I don't know.”

The Magician eyed her suspiciously. “How did you do this?”

“I don't know! Please, just stay away. I don't want to hurt you…”

“You are the only citizen awake in this entire city! Where is your defense?!”

I have to run. But where?

“Who are you?”

The gates. Three…

The Magicians closed in on her.

Two…

A Silver Magician shot a blast of magic at her.

… One. She dodged, bolting towards the gates.

“Stop her!”

“Leave me ALONE!!!” A blast of golden magic shot from her hand, knocking out one of the Magicians. She took her chance with magic…

And destroyed the gates, running into the unknown.

It was better to be Colourless. Home wasn't an option anymore. Home never existed.
___
Chapter 4: Shelter

Elysia sprinted through the dark woods, red dress torn and scratched, hoping that the Magicians had given up their search. Now she was Outside, she couldn't do any harm to the citizens of Aurora, right? That meant they wouldn't look for her, right?!

And of course, their was always a way to stop you from running. This time, it was a large, overgrown root.

Elysia tripped on the root, falling down, digging a deep wound into her lower leg.

“Ah…!” She fell down, scarlet liquid dripping.

She had no medical supplies with her, but, using the cloth of her dress, she made a tourniquet (a medical tool used for stopping blood flow so that loss of blood slows down.)
She dragged herself through the forest, hoping to find shelter. There were wolves here, and bears. There were creatures untold of here. That's why they were safe, in the city. That was what the teachers told her.

It was evening, and all Elysia had found was a large cavity in a wide tree. She gathered several fallen leaves as her bed, but it wasn't the same as her farmhouse. Yes, she was poor, but there, she always had a warm bed, dinner ready and a welcome smile from her dad.

Her dad.

What had happened to him?

(A/N: Sorry this chapter is so short, but I had to write it quickly.)
___
Chapter 5: Clarity

Eli.

Clarity scrambled to her feet.

Eli.

No, not this. This was bad. Really bad.

Eli.

She watched as her fellow Auroreans awoke.

Not Eli.

And the Magicians, the Magicians, were outside, guarding a… The broken Gate.

All thoughts and deductions came into her mind: Her best friend, Elysia, a ‘simple’ farm girl who could knock out an entire city with a single emotion, was Outside.

And that meant Outside, an unmapped wilderness with both animal and beast, unprotected by the city walls. This was a wasteland of the Colourless. The Magicians were the protectors, the people who meant to keep the city pure and magical. But now, that would change.

They were the villains, or, at least, the people who did not understand that these Colourless were people.

“Claire?”

She stood up to find Elysia's father, Michael, standing there.

“She did it, didn't she?”

Clarity opened her mouth to speak but, not being able to find words, she shut it again. It was a long silence for the two.

“I… I'm sorry.”

“The Test forces us to do many things… It makes us release a power we would not have if it was not needed…” Michael covered his face.

“Your wife. He loved her.”

“Sorry?”

Clarity stood in shock. “I-I don't know.”

Chapter 6: The Daughter

Aureum, a Gold Magician, paced across marble tiles within the Magician's castle shouting orders to guards and lower-level Magicians.

“I want her found!” He yelled as guards marched outside.

Vivet, a Silver and right hand of Aureum, placed a hand on his shoulder, making him stop.

“She is a young girl who is afraid of her powers. Do not take out your anger on her now that you have a ‘cause,’” Vivet advised.

“This may have to do with a history I've had, but she is also a danger to Aurora!”

“Oh, do not pretend that you are protecting the city. You are a selfish, greedy man, unfit to rule a city. You may be the most powerful, but also the most immature.”

"IMMATURE?!

”You have a horrible past with her family, but she is gone, a threat to Aurora no more. Do not take her power lightly either. If she is really the daughter, then her power will be stronger than ever imagined.“

Aureum roughly lifted her hand from his shoulder.

”You do not understand what I feel.“

”And you do not understand what she feels. Her mother died because of you, and now you go after not only her father, but her.“

”Am I supposed to feel sorry for them? Because he took everything away from me. He was a lone commoner.“

”And she was ‘so much greater.’ The past is past. Revenge is not the answer.“

”We'll se about that.“ He turned back to the soldiers, all awaiting his command. ”Find me that girl and finish her."
___

Chapter 7: Meet The Colourless

It was nighttime now. Cold air surrounded Elysia, and she could see her breath. The sky above was deep purple, almost black, with dots of twinkling white lights. It was a dangerous beauty.

And then the bushes next to her moved.

Elysia slowly got to her feet, ready to run if necessary. No, she couldn't run. She would trip and fall and get caught by whatever it was.

And she definitely had no where to run.

No going back to Aurora now, she thought.

She hesitantly raised her hands, planning to strike. She could not kill, but she could at least make them fall asleep. But she only could use it if she was angry. She couldn't be angry.

She was scared. Scared from the thing in the bushes like the thing under her bed at night.

But no, this was reality.

“Another one!” A voice rang out.

“What?” Elysia put down her hands.

A young, brown-haired boy of about thirteen walked out from the bushes. Several other men and women followed.

“Well, well. Another addition to the village!” Smirked the boy.

“Village? Who are you?”

“Isn't it obvious?”

“…The Colourless.”

“Now, how'd a girl like you fail the Test?”

“I didn't fail,” said Elysia. It was a partial truth.

“Oh, a runaway?”

“No, a criminal.”

He laughed and the others returned to what they were doing-Hunting. “How so?”

Her face turned stern. “The city fell asleep. And I was the only one awake besides the Magicians. Guess who did it.”

The boy stopped his masquerade of laughter and mockery. “Prove it.”

“Only when I'm angry, so I can't.”

“Fair enough. The name's Arthur, and I was born Outside.” He reached out to shake her hand.

“Elysia.” She denied any handshake, so he put his hand down. She wasn't sure if he liked this boy or not.

“Er, now, follow me. You should meet the rest of the village.” He started walking towards the direction of the moon and Elysia followed.

After a while, they came to a clearing.

There were huts, huts and people everywhere. There had to at least be forty.

The smell of smoke filled the air as well as the dried leaves of the huts, damp from a night's rain.

“You sleep over there for tonight.” He pointed towards a small empty hut. “Someone will probably help you build a home tomorrow. Get some sleep!” And he walked away.

Elysia trudged to the small hut and lay out on the ground. It wasn't very comfy, but it was safe.

Safe at last.

While the whole “I don't fit in to this place/I have strong magical powers I can't control” parts are a bit cliche, the concept of the story keeps it interesting. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Try introducing the main character gradually, first with a bit of physical description, and later on, adding to the story, their personality. A good story must have:

Character:
The main and side characters must have a complete personality as well as a backstory that is gradually revealed.

Setting:
The time and place of the story must be organized.

Storyline:
Try something original or retell a story with a plot twist.

1) Call To Adventure-The start of the problem and intro to the main character
2) Hesitance-The hesistance of a main or side character to solve the problem
3) Crossing The Threshold-Starting the actual adventure
4) Allies and Enemies-Determining the side of the character
5) Ordeal-The first big encounter with the problem
6)Resurrection-Recovering from the ordeal with a new solution
7)Final Battle-Last encounter with the problem
8) Bringing Home The Elixir-Victory

Types of Conflict:
-Character vs. Society
-Character vs. Nature
-Character vs. Self
-Character vs. Character

Add proper grammer and higher level vocab and you have the basis of a great story!

Remember, you don't just come up with a good story in a day or even a week. It takes a lot of planning before actually writing.

“…The Colourless…”

I will continue the story, so don't worry. I'll update this every now and then. (Hopefully twice a week.)

Bio-Elysia
Age: 12 I Gender: Female I Familiar: Golden Eagle I Color: Colourless (Supposed to be Gold) I Looks: Golden hair, fair skin, gold eyes, slender build I Personality: Curious, clever, self-conscious, over protective, extremely cautious I Family and Colours: Father-Red I Special Powers: If angry, the ability to send anyone into a deep sleep, able to turn any metal into gold, soothing/sleeping spell

Bio-Arthur
Age: 13 I Gender: Male I Familiar: None I Color: Colourless (Never took the Test but supposed to be green) I Looks: Short brown hair, tanned, green eyes, muscular build I Personality: Clever, outgoing, mischievous, witty I Family and Colours: He is orpahned and born to the Colourless I Special Powers: Fairly fast, can talk to animals, is a skilled hunter, works best with a sword

A lot similarity to the first and second book in the Divergent series, More then the studio recognizes, but that is ok. I liked it, that's for sure. Oh, and maybe Elysia could meet Lynn, basically (sort-of) the leader of colorless.

Elysia trudged to the small hut and lay out on the ground. It wasn't very comfy, but it was safe.

Safe at last.

I will continue the story, so don't worry. I'll update this every now and then. (Hopefully twice a week.)

(A/N: I'm going to start spelling ‘color’ as ‘colour’ now XD And I just added the character Arthur in, but I already ship it. IDK if that's bad ;u

Maybe ^^
