I don't discourage love-its or favorites. But I can see why other might; the contest host is giving out the love-its an a reward and may not truly like the projects being love-it'ed. But one may argue that whether the contest host likes the projects or not, the recipient earned the love-its by winning the art contest. This is just my interpretation, at least.

In my opinion giving out love-its and favourites disregards the system entirely. The system is intended to show how many people enjoy a project. Yes this can be replicated if someone is voted for in an art contest, but it still nullifies them in my opinion. Instead you could simply post the user's work and name in various places (forum post for the contest, project for the contest etc) and increase their reputation among the community.

This is just my opinion, as Ernie said, please feel free to disagree with me.

As I said on the wiki myself, I don't think that it's relevant anymore (or ever even was.) I think that if you did well in a contest or something, it's perfectly fine to give out prizes. It's not like they will send you real money if you win. If that was the case, we'd have problems, but that isn't the case.

I have never seen a case in which giving out loves and favorites has been discouraged. In fact, I use them myself in my own CCs (having almost nothing else to give ).

Besides, I would usually pick out a few projects that I actually like to love and favorite, not just random projects. I'm pretty sure most other people who use loves and favorites do the same thing.

So I would suggest that you take out that part entirely (I don't even think there are any prizes that are discouraged). If you're going to keep the loves and favorites part, add some other prizes that are used, like art requests, follows, and joining the victor's CCs .

I personally believe that loves and favorites are fine to give out as a reward for any contest. They encourage people to enter. Also, if you really do like their art enough to give them first (or any other place) prize, then I don't see why that wouldn't be OK. After all, you clearly like their art enough to give them that prize. They are also good to give out, if you have not much else to give. Yes, you can do an art request, or help them with their project, but this takes time, and may not be easy. I can see why doing this could be tedious. As far as I know, the Scratch Team is also fine with giving out these rewards. I can see why people would discourage this, however. Firstly, the people receiving those prizes, may not consider them “legitimate”, and might prefer something else. A love or favorite might be less valuable, if the reason you received it was for something completely different. This may also place a little too much emphasis on fame, and loves and favorites. Secondly, giving loves or favorites as a prize, could be considered disregarding the system entirely. Loves and favorites (and follows) are used to show how many people like that project (or user). Loving or favoriting because of a contest, defeats the purpose a little. Overall, I would reword this statement. I would say the following:
Often there is a reward to the victors, sometimes being love-its and favorites, however this is sometimes discouraged by the Scratch community, as it places a high emphasis on fame.
