Art Theft And recoloring. (Don't Ban Me For making this Or report it; I am just confused.)

To the scratch team;
I was wondering, Why do you let so many people Recolor and steal Art? (Don't Ban Me For making this Or report it; I am just confused.) Stealing art is againt the law you know. So why let people on scrathc Do that; And break the law…? I'm sorry, but it doesn't make sense. Tons of people remix, And do nothing to Change it in any Sort of way, Except Changing the colors; Which Isn't Very creative AND They Don't Change the code AT ALL. Like, You know @[removed - please don't gossip] ? She Only posted her animations on another site; And Other Left and Are leaving. AND I HAVE AN IDEA TO FIX THIS. Why doesn't the scratch team make a thing that makes people Take time on their Remixes, OR You would have to make another sprite and THEN Draw/ progam it?
Why Don't You people do that instead?

A Fellow Scratcher;

Shared Scratch projects use a license that allows others to remix them. Remixes must give credit to the original.

So recoloring is technically legal here.

The only way to stop this for now is to report those projects that don't have any changes at all. Unfortunately, though, you can't do much about recolors, especially if they credit you. If you report them, you get an alert yourself.

As to your suggestion, that has been suggested before and the conclusion was that it would be too complex to implement and close all the loopholes.
EDIT: Oops forgot this wasn't the suggestions forum. Oh well.

Actually, the first post is perfectly fine. It states that some users, like -Skystar-, post only on other sites now because of recoloring. If the OP was saying anything negative about -Skystar-, then yes, that would be naming names. but it doesn't appear to be doing that, just using her as an example for the effect something has on the community.

You can recolor and take art, if you credit the owner. At least the people here aren't taking anything that is actually copyrighted and not give credit…

Okay, thank you for clarifying.

Unfortunately, recoloring IS allowed here, as long as they give credit. However, copying is NOT. Report a project copy if you see one.

Recoloring is NOT art theft. I do not like art theft or recoloring, but it's not art theft.

“Art theft” is not a topic of argument as the fact remains that remixes (no matter what you choose to call them) are not indeed, “art theft.” If you don't agree the Scratch rules, either don't publicly share your projects, or discontinue your usage of the site. Remixing promotes creativity and imagination in users. People who start arguments against remixing or “re-coloring” are creating problems for themselves and other users. Here is a project giving an argument on the subject: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/85597386/

Yeah, closing this thread as old and resolved.

Recoloring is, in our mind, completely ok as a remix given proper attribution. That's not a stance we intend to change, so we're not going to make changes that would disallow those kind of modifications. There are plenty of sites that give artists more control over their art, which as you've said, others have moved to. That's ok - Scratch doesn't have to be for everyone. We're more focused on providing a place for people who want to share their art with the community, and not just display it.
