Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a satirical realistic fiction novel by Jeff Kinney. It is the first book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. The book is about a boy named Greg Heffley and his struggles in middle school.

Also I recently rewatched the Rodrick Rules movie at a party with a whole bunch of my family friends, it was actually a lot more hilarious than I remember it being.

Honestly they're actually fairly honest books in regards to the fact that the main character is kind of an irredeemable jerk and he does stupid stuff and stupid stuff happens in middle school. I remember reading something about how like, a Hollywood movie just couldn't handle the fact that Greg was such a huge jerk to everybody, so they added that weird moral compass character.

Although, Wikipedia says “Satire is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society itself, into improvement.” while it also is the source of your first sentence in the topic post (source things btw). Now I'm confused, was DOAWK ever really about shaming society into improving itself? It points out some silly things about middle school, sure…

The movies are a like kids The Office almost…I feel so bad for Greg and end up cringing.

yeah, I didn't like her at all. like, the actress was ok, but I didn't like how they just randomly added this super cool mary sue-ish girl to lead the way.

anyway, the first 4 or 5 were funny, but cabin fever was pretty terrible. I mean, greg explicitly stated he doesn't believe in santa and only pretended to so he could get more gifts. I like the first two movies a lot, especially the second one (just because I like devon bostick, they're about the same in terms of how funny they are)

I'm sure the “dark scenes” are actually quite a bit less than what you see in a lot of “kiddy stuff”.

And I'm getting confirmation LPS has no dark scenes from a friend.

I never said anything about that. And don't say the art is horrible, it's unique and made easy for children to draw. Also, what's so immature about DOAWK? The storyline is hilarious if you can reflect it on your own life.

I never found any misspelling in DOAWK.

And I actually quite enjoy the art style, it's very minimalist and unique-looking.

Okay, here's someone who absolutely loves these books. I don't how you can't. Think of them as a comic. My favorite might be Dog Days and my least favorite is the Ugly Truth. They're all good, though. Can't wait for the next! The movies were descent, too.

I enjoyed the first two and genuienely laughed at most parts. But by the third book, I'd noticed that it was starting to wear thin. This is what I call The Simpsons Effect.

The Simpsons Effect is a common cliche for pop culture where something seems good at first (as in, the first book/season/movie was excellent) but the content is stretched to still make it seem funnier as there are more installments, this is common in The Simpsons - hence the name.

actually an incredibly realistic series, the things in the book the narrator explains are fairly factual for a middle school/high school student, and to be honest with you i'm actually kind of annoyed with myself (with my age now) that i still re-read this line of books, lol.

I do know one thing.
DOAWK is the best acronym ever.

I love those books. Have all of them and I want to get the new one, Hard Luck, coming out November 5th.

I have come to not like the books anymore. But I must admit that the movies are hilarious.

“Dark scenes” don't really change the fact that all three of those series are aimed at little girls.

What “dark” scenes, beg pardon? It's basically about a super-skinny teenage girl who finds that she can talk to multicolored big-eyed animals. It's actually kinda cliche, you know.
Anyway, I really like Diary of a Wimpy Kid because of Greg's cynical POV and just because the series is so darn funny.
