People have suggested that there be a shop where you use credits, and the idea is okay. So, what if there was a place where people could choose to upload art (such as sprites, backdrops, etc… ), custom made sounds, and other things that could fit in a small category without the credits! I think having credits will spoil Scratch for people. Scratch is about coding, not seeing if you can get enough credits for that one thing you really want. If this were implemented, it would make Scratch much more convenient to beginners, people who don't have software to make music and/or are bad at making music, and/or bad at making sprites in Scratch. Now, if you get the art and/or sound, it will be added to your backpack by clicking “Add to Backpack”. For the Terms of Use, it is basically the same as remixes, just adapted for stuff gotten off the Scratch Collections. Report if someone is taking credit for your work (or taking credit for your project), give credit on project if using item from the Scratch Collections (Give credit to original creator of project), and anything sensible the creator has to add. If inappropriate, you can report the item (reporting an inappropriate project), if you like it, you heart it (hearting a project), and if you would recommend it to others, star it (starring a project). I know this is very flawed and will probably not get added, but I would like your 2 cents on this. Oh yes, nearly forgot, everything will be set up like the explore page, except you don't click something to redirect you to a project, you click “Add to Backpack” to get the item!

Edit: Instead of downloading, the item is added to your backpack.

Edit: The Scratch Gallery has been changed to The Scratch Collections.

They have the sprite library, the backdrop library, and the sound library already. No support.

Eh, basically all that you have to do is find a sound or sprite you really like and then go through your internet browsers/ computers typical download routine. Then you put the stuff in the project you want it in by following the instructions given from Scratch. Or, if you want it even simpler:

Step 1: Find something you like.
Step 2: Click download.
Step 3: Follow on-screen instructions.
Step 4: Go to project you desire to put the items in.
Step 5: Go to the button related to what you found. (Upload (Spirte, Sound, Costume, etc) from file)
Step 6: Follow on-screen instructions. (Make sure you know the file name so you know what you're looking for)
Step 7: Done!

Not that complex!

I am talking about stuff that everyone can share, not just through stuff the Scratch Team makes very occasionally. This will remove some clutter in the explore page for projects and will make Scratch extra convenient if you can't find what you are looking for in the libraries provided by Scratch.

No support, we already have sprite, costume, backdrop, and sound libraries. If you find something else on Scratch that you want to use, then put it in your backpack. If you find something online that you wanna use, then follow these steps-
  1. Download the file. Can usually be done by right clicking and selecting “save” or “download”, or the page might have a download button on it. If a box comes up asking you where you want to save the file (which it should), then store it in a folder you can easily find and with a name that you can remember.
  2. Enter Scratch. Select the upload button for whatever media type you want to add.
  3. Another box should pop up asking you to select a file. Find the file you just downloaded. Select it and upload it.
If you want to create a place where anyone can upload stuff to be used in Scratch, no support, as people already create studios and projects for these.

This is going to make finding stuff more convenient, I imagine not everyone is going to go through projects just to find what they want. I imagine most would just draw their own there. If you wanted to find a sprite that was like the cat, but had talking and much better moving animations, I would imagine something nearly the same would be on the Scratch Gallery. If you wanted a monkey that looked better than the monkeys the Scratch Team provided in the library, the Scratch Gallery could probably have something of the like. Once it gets going, there would be tons more to choose from than just what's in the library or others projects, and some maybe stuff that isn't in the library. Other than that, I completely forgot about the back pack! Downloads are quite worthless if you have the backpack!

I am talking about stuff that everyone can share, not just through stuff the Scratch Team makes very occasionally. This will remove some clutter in the explore page for projects and will make Scratch extra convenient if you can't find what you are looking for in the libraries provided by Scratch.
I feel bad that people don't understand that you want OTHER SCRATCHERS to add stuff to the gallery, not the scratch team premade stuff. Full support!

If this means that Scratchers can create scripts/sprites and upload them to a gallery, and can tag them like projects (platformer/text/cloud engines, specific art, etc.), then full support. I'm assuming that we can love, favorite, and comment just like projects. I'm not sure how giving credit works - does it automatically give credit or does the project creator add that manually?

They have to add it manually! No scripts, though! Just stuff to help your project go along faster!

No way! Scratch isn't dropbox.

No, but it would certainly make it easier to find things you need. It could be another tab under the Explore page.

To clarify, everything is setup the same way the explore pages are, except with a heart and star along with an “Add to Backpack” button. Heart means you liked it and star means that you would recommend this to other people as well as really liking it. And I think Add to Backpack is pretty straight forward.

This is for convenience. Many people don't want to sift through all these projects and studios to find what they want, they want something convenient and quick to find! Plus there would be less clog in the projects.

Support. There is something called OpenSprites that has sounds, costumes, and scripts that you can download and upload, but you can't add them directly into your backpack. Oh, and this should be renamed to something else because “galleries” are also known as studios.
