As everyone knows, the remix/recolor war has been happening since 2011. So, I suggest adding a sensor that tells if you gave credit or not. If you didn't give credit, you would get a message in your inbox saying “Don't forget to give credit on your remixes!”

There is no war–just people who follow rules, and people who don't like those rules. Just like politics.

A system like this is already implemented.

Actually, there is a war. I should know, I was smacked right between it. What is the similar system? I don't think I know about it.

Well, not going to comment about the “War”.

But when remixing a project, it should show you did underneath, or to the side I believe. Not to sure.

OK!

Let's recap what the CC-BY-SA license is for:
  • BY (Attribution) Licensees may copy, distribute, display and perform the work and make derivative works based on it only if they give the author or licensor the credits in the manner specified by these.
  • SA (ShareAlike) Licensees may distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs the original work.
Under these clauses, all projects shared on Scratch are immediately free to use by anyone at anytime without being bound to conditions such as “no recolors”.

tl;dr
If you don't like recolors, don't bother sharing your projects here

edit: wait, this topic isn't about recolors? oh well, still no support because the autocredit thing (link to original project) is sufficient

I don't dislike remixes. In fact, I think they are great. I just hate all the fights about giving credit. 3 of my very close friends left because of it, and it was a painful experience. I don't want anyone to have to go through that.

Credit in the notes section is still required. The Scratch Team now requires that a remixer says at least something in the Notes and credits area when sharing a remix of a project.

@mockingjay2020: Your suggestion has been kind of implemented. There is a pop up which appears to the remixer (when he or she remixes something) that tells the remixer to give credit. The pop up will stay until the remixer types something in the Notes and Credits area.

OK. I'm still editing the idea of it

if you call it a war you will end up treating it like one

what you need to do is relax

Anyways, how would this be done? There are a million ways to give credit, and a million ways to trick the system into thinking you gave credit.

What we have to do is test ideas out. I try not to treat it like a war, but sometimes it is very hard not to. This is just a draft of an idea. It'll be improved over time.

Sometimes people just write hi or random words or numbers in the notes and credits.

I'm not entirely against recoloring, but I've seen users who ONLY recolor. This doesn't give the recolorer a chance to develop their own art style.

Support. How about that pop-up detects if someone typed their username

but there's nothing saying they must have their “own” art style, is there?

This suggestion has been added to Scratch so it can be closed. Thanks for the great ideas
