I have desided to cancel the arctical, as it is to much like what I looked at. Thanks though everyone, it was interesting to know!

I'm guessing the creator(s) of Scratch had a cat that was orange and white, and scratched a lot…

“We take the name ”Scratch,“ from the way that hip-hop disk jockeys scratch with music. They take pieces of music and then combine them together in unexpected and creative ways.” - Mitch Resnick, Scratch Director

This guy (who i have talked to IRL) thought it up.

Also it's similar to Squeak, which is what the 1.x versions were made on.

^^^ Thanks! Once I have collected a bit more info i'll put the artical together.

Cats scratch things, so a cat would be a good choice for the mascot.

I always thought it was from the idiom “made from scratch”
