In this game, you're running an amusement park. You have to keep the guests in your park happy, build different rides and attractions, and keep up with your budget. I know it's a relatively old game (I've had it since my childhood) but there's a 3DS version coming out soon (or so I hear), so I thought I'd post a topic here.

I have both the second and the third games, and have the expansion packs for both of them. The third game is a lot different from the second, and took a long time to get used to, but I think it's ultimately better. It's more 3D than the two previous games, and the guests actually look different from each other and have more personality. Also, with the Splash expansion pack, you can build swimming pools, which I thought was a great addition.

So yeah, discuss RollerCoaster Tycoon here.

I haven't played Roller Coaster Tycoon, but I have played other Tycoon games (same company I think), and they're pretty fun

I play the original and the third.

The third is infinitely better for designing unrealistic coasters without limits, but the first is superior in actual gameplay if you want to do campaign.

@jji: Tycoon isn't exactly a trademark, so tons of companies make various ones, and aside from Zoo Tycoon, the rest tend to suck.

The second game is better than the third in some respects. I liked the scenarios better in the second game, and the music was a lot better. (That might be the nostalgia speaking, though.)

Yep.

I had this game a long time ago and somehow found it entertaining to make the worst ride ever. Related: Cars explode if they fall off the track, launching people pretty high/getting them stuck in fences

I also learned you can somehow turn off collision in options.txt so you can make self-intersecting loops, but I never figured out how and lost the install cds for the game

Bump does anyone like the second? That's the best ever, and it's actually available here for PC download on Amazon for $10. I bought it, and it it's so great with the expansion pack also!

Thrillville is potentially one of the worst game ripoffs I've ever played.

The physics are LITERALLY nonexistent, any possible hill can be passed over without fail, and the speed tends to just be slow the whole time.

The additions to the park are much more limited and it's infinitely more difficult to overview what fans think of the park, build what is needed, etc.

Though the chatting with guests is p fun and all I would do when I was young is hit on girls and play mini golf.

Also, the 3DS RCT has been released for almost a year and by all accounts was either awful or mediocre.

I only played the third.

One of my friends has Rollercoaster Tycoon. I'm not sure which one it is, but it's pretty fun…
I like Zoo Tycoon, though. There's so much to do.

I don't have it, but from what I've seen and heard, No Limits is much more realistic. They just released NL 2.

No limits seems just like a roller coaster simulator. RCT 2 is forever my all-time favorite game! There's much more to it than just roller coasters.

No Limits is geared towards roller coaster nerds like me
It's supposed to be as realistic as possible, and they spent like over three years working on NL2.

I've only played the original.

One of the best games of that time.
