I forget sometimes that not everyone visits Advanced Topics

In countries where the game is not officially released, you have to download the app from a 3rd party, for android that is a .apk file. Hashing is a way of converting a file to a random-looking string of characters, such that 2 different files will produce completely different hashes. SHA256 is one possible hashing method.

If I had the SHA256 hash of the official version, I could check the SHA256 hash of the version I have downloaded from a 3rd party site. If they are the same, I know that my version IS the official version, so it is safe to install. Otherwise, if it is different, then it has been tampered with so is likely to contain I virus.

I know what APK files are, but because I downloaded the official version so I have no idea what the updated SHA256 hash is.

I'm not from the UK, though, and it's a REALLY bad idea to download the APK due to Niantic being able to ban you because of it.

They are only rumours; no one's been banned for APK downloading at all yet, and it would be a bad business move for them to ban people considering the potential lost revenue from a large portion of the player base.

Both of those got on my very last nerve.

Me trying to catch a male Nidoran this morning:
“Come on, press it!”
“Dang it, I hit the Pidgey. Well, might as well catch this one.”
Then the Pokeball froze. As I call it: “the Pokemon glitched!”
“GAHHH!!! Now I can't even get the Pidgey!”

And since I was playing in the car while my mom drove down the street, I lost the Nidoran forever

Yes, but I think the best idea is to be patient and wait for an official release in other countries (i.e. Canada and UK)

Is it best to focus on getting 1 strong ‘mon or lots of mid-level ’mons?

There's a gym with higher levels than I currently have nearby, but I might be able to defeat at least 1 pokémon from it, which I can then repeat to lower its prestige and kick a pokémon out, getting XP in the process

I (team mystic player) was standing in the park when this kid (team instinct) invited me to take out a team valor gym with him. I was leaving the park so I couldn't help, but I was just wondering if this is possible.
