Using Arabic text in backdrops

I am trying to create an interactive storybook in Arabic.
I see that I can add Arabic text to the “say” blocks for the sprites, but I can't seem to type in Arabic script when designing backdrops.
Am I missing something or is it not possible?
Thanks!

It's not possible. You need to handwrite the text.

Okay, thanks!

I tried to work around this issue by saving the Arabic text as .jpg and .png files.
They are high quality images and the text is perfectly clear when viewed full screen, but when I upload them to Scratch, they are rendered very badly and the text in the image is too pixelated to read.
Any suggestions for this issue?

You might want to make the text smaller - that will help.

Oops. I think I hit “Report” thinking I was hitting “Reply”. Sorry about that.

The text is small. And it's not just the text that is rendered unreadable. Once uploaded to Scratch, the resolution of the image, including graphics, is horrible. :-(

Is there an optimal file type/size to upload? What does Scratch do to the images that lowers the resolution so much?

Thanks!

I think it converts it to bitmap and resizes the image to that it fits on the stage. I would make the file size less than 480x360 pixels (the size of the stage) for best results.

@BibaDahab - Can you use vector for the backdrops, or does it have to be bitmap for a specific reason?

Thanks for the info! Changing the file size did seem to make the image a bit clearer, but not 100%. And I would prefer to have the program fun in full screen, if possible.

I'll continue to work with this and see if I can come up with a solution.

Thanks again for your help.

No, it doesn't have to be bitmap. Are you suggesting I create the images as vectors and then upload as backdrop?

Possible necro?

And that's for the say blocks, etc. Typing it in the editor isn't possible.

Thanks, all, for your help and suggestions.

Here's the project I was working on:
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/81761296/

It still has some glitches with the Arabic text and the way the letters/words get split in the Say bubbles, but I think most of my work-arounds were successful. :-)

I have asked the Scratch development team about this, and they are working on a soultion. It is not easy to program though, so it will probably still take them some time to figure this out.

Somebody has found a workaround for Russian, but it's a bit complicated: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/33253/

I expect that Arabic is even more challenging because of the initial/medial/final characters.

Stuth sa Ghàidhlig
repeat until <not <(language) = [English]>>
set (language) to [Gàidhlig]
end

Thanks! That's good to know.

Knoledge - having knowledge will help you scratch! It will also help you code! Hope you have it!

Imagine - It’s what this website is made for! Imagine your way into wonderful games.

Notable - Being notable in scratch terms is when you make a good impact in the scratch community.

Discover - Discovery in scratch is when you find a new way to do stuff. Maybe you found a workaround to logbase2, powers, or maybe you found a whole new way to code! Every discovery on scratch (as long as it isn’t used to break the guidelines) is good!

Convert to .svg before uploading. That way it will be vector instead of bitmap.
