Connect Wii Remote and Balance Board to Scratch 2.0 with iiConnect2Scratch
Hello,
I've just completed a driver which will allow the Wii devices to interact with Scratch 2.0.
Please have a look at the web page which contains the User Guide, downloadable SW, and sample projects:

Hi scanet,
Ignore the PDF, I will remove it from the next installer. Thanks for pointing this out.
The official User Guide is here: http://creativecomputerlab.com/extensions/iiConnect2Scratch.pdf
The .sb2 file does not need to be opened on your local PC. iiConect2Scratch only works with the online editor.
From the online editor choose “File->Upload from your computer” to load the .sb2 file.
You'll see the extension blocks and everything should be fine.
Tell me more about the installation on W8:
Does the account you're running have admin privileges?
Does the “iiConnect2Scratch” app show up in the Control Panel -> Programs->Programs and Features?
Did the .exe and 3 .dlls get copied to “C:\Program Files (x86)\CreativeComputerLab\iiConnect2Scratch”?
If so, then try launching the .exe from there.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi,
thanks for your information.
Hope it will works with offline version…
I'll try when I can have my wiimote again. Can you give your s2e file on your website that we can translate it ?
It's W8.1x64, I have admin privileges and it appears in Control Panel…
Why do you want it to be installed ? It's a portable application.
I know the problem !!! With 7zip I can extract the DLL file but Avast delete your EXE file…Even in exclusion, it puts it in quarantaine each time I launch it.
Thanks for resolving it.

Hi CreativComputerLab
I really like this
But…
I cant get the nun-chuck to work
If I connect the remote without the Nun-chuck and then plug the nun-chuck in after the iiConect2Scratch program crashes
If I connect it with a nun-chuck it simply wont respond.
I'm running Windows 8 and using an ‘ednet. Bluetooth 4.0 USB adaptor’
The nun-chuck dose work with my Wii
Do you know what my problem is?
Thanks

I created the installer so one doesn't have to copy .dlls around. The iiConnect2Scratch should uninstall cleanly via the control panel so there's no worries about corrupting your computer.

Hi Ciaran,
What symptom did the crash show? i.e. did a dialog box come up saying there was an unhandled exception? If so, what was the message?
Just to confirm, the Wiimote works fine, right? Do you get all the Wiimote data showing and changing in the iiConnect2ScratchTest Panel?
I'll double check the nunchuck code for anything strange. The joystick on the nunchuck in Scratch is really cool. It'd be worth figuring out the issue…
It'd be interesting to see how the Balance Board behaves if you can borrow one.

Hi CreativeComputerLab
When I plug the nun-chuck into the Wii remote,Windows comes up with a ‘Checking for a solution’ message and then reports back and says:
'iiConnect2Scratch has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.'
The I click ‘Close program’ and it closes the message and iiConnect2Scratch.
By connecting with the nun-chuck it simply becomes unresponsive.
The Wii remote works fine without the nun-chuck
If I pair it with the nun-chuck the remote works fine
If I add the nun-chuck in after pairing and opening iiConnect2Scratch both of them become unresponsive the the error message comes up and the program closes
Yes all buttons and axis's are working.
I will see if I can get my hands on a balance board
Looks like it could do some cool stuff with Scratch
Keep up the great work
Thanks for replying

Hi CreativeComputerLab,
hate to be the bearer of bad news but I have been messing with the lights on the Wii remotes and I think I have found a problem
When turning on/off lights manually its grand, really cool effect
but
when I write a big script e.g.
Turn off light 1 on wiimote1
'' ‘' ’' 2 ‘' ’'
'' ‘' ’' 3 ‘' ’'
ect
only the first two lines work, the rest are inactive
(really awkward) Solution without changing iiConnect2Scratch,
add a wait 0.01 seconds after the second line of turn off…
This will only ‘extend’ it's allowance by one so you need one after every line
Suggestion for future update:
Make it so that variables are able to be inserted into the light script e.g.
Turn (variable) on/off light RandomLight on Randomontroler
And other scripts like that.

Hi, thanks for answering.
Did you try with Avast Antivirus ? Do you know why it declares iiConnect like a virus ?
“s23 file” sorry, I mean s2e file, the exetension file used for the sb2 save. How can you translate inside Scratch online ???
For the DLL, I did not installed this files anywhere, just in the same directory as the exe file. It wokrs perfectly (when Avast is off ).
Thanks.

Hi Ciaran,
Thanks for the feedback. I will create a script such as you've mentioned and
reproduce the issue.
Also, with regards to the nunchuck, I'll work on putting together a diagnostic version of
iiConnect2Scratch and send it to you.

Hi scanet,
I am pushing hard for support for the extension with the offline version.
I am working with the Scratch dev team to support this.
If support doesn't happen quickly, I will be forced to write a http server which will interface to the iiConnect2Scratch driver so
that the offline editor can access the data via the http protocol.
I will send out a notification the minute offline editor support is available.
Your project sounds interesting. Please keep me posted.

hi,
I am testing this on an old laptop with XP Pro SP3. Its all I have access to atm.
I am testing only the balance board, no other wii device atm.
I can connect the board but NOT pair. If I leave it blank it complains that the pairing id does not match????
Is connect enough or must it be paired?
When connected the balance board comes on a stays on. it is not flashing.
There is no data being transmitted when I look at the device status.
iiConnect2Scratch starts without asking me for permissions.
Nothing appears to be happening when i run the .sb2 file in the online env.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Should I just try a more up to date OS?
Greg
