Before there was anything, there was an infinite sea of coarse pastel sand. The world remained this way, an endless expanse of cat litter, for unfathomable millenia. Suddenly, one day in this time before days, a huge palace rose out of the sand. Its near-infinite pillars, chambers, and bridges were wrapped in sisal rope and covered in rough gray carpet. And at the top of this tower of tacky carpet sat a white cat. Her silvery eyes shone blue in the dark and her lithe ivory body was covered from nose to tail-tip in blue images and patterns as vivid as lapis lazuli. Her name was Salix Neko.
Salix lived alone for countless centuries, sleeping for decades at a time. But she was lonely, and although she hated to admit it to herself, she was lazy. And so she spoke for the first time.
“I wish… for companions,” she meowed into the silent black air. And then, without a puff of smoke or any sign of magic, the cats appeared. There were hundreds of them, tabbys and bengals, Siamese and Maine Coons. Years passed, and although Salix Neko was no longer lonely, she was still lazy, and refused to work. The other cats were lazy too, and they spent their days sleeping.
Eventually Salix had a daughter with one of the cats. The little cat crawled out of Salix Neko’s blue-and-white ear rather than being born in the normal way. They named the tiny spring-green kitten Belis Neko [English translation: Daisy Cat] for the tiny floral designs on her cheeks.
When Belis was grown, Salix once again returned to her usual lazy state. Those few months raising Belis had exhausted her beyond measure and she wanted servants more than ever. So she made another wish.
“I wish for servants,” she whispered. And then the humans appeared. They were strange creatures, with pink, hairless bodies that they carried around on their two long smooth legs. But they served the cats well, and that was all Salix cared about.
Time passed. Some say weeks, some say centuries. One day, Belis was playing in the cat litter ocean. She swam and dug, mewling happily as she did. Suddenly, her paw hit against something hard. It was a faceted crystal trapdoor. Being the curious kitten she was, she opened it.
A massive whirlpool immediately formed in the ocean as the cat litter began to spiral down to earth. all the humans and cats were sucked down to earth. All but Salix Neko, who was sleeping in her tower. As all the beings fell to the ground, Belis sprouted pink-feathered wings and landed gently on the new land that formed in the worldwide ocean. The people began to lead their own lives outside of servitude, but still cared for the cats. Salix remained in the original world above the seas, and when she’d yowl for Belis, the last of her servants who could journey to the cat tower. Whenever she’d call for the small green cat, strands of light would crack from the door in the sky as she growled and snarled. The people named the land Dasilia after Belis Neko, angering Salix. She yowled in outrage until she began to cry, and this is why it rains to this day.
And so it has been told, that Salix Neko birthed Belis Neko, and together they created humans and found the world.
