Dark. Cold. Gloomy. A thick, subzero, white blanket enveloped the grass and smothered every branch of every tree. Who would want to embark on a journey in this weather?
Every Pokemon inhabiting the Santalune forest had scrambled away to hibernate. Pikachu had fled in search of warmer climates; Butterfree, Beedrill and Vivillon migrated to tropical regions. The once green forest of summer seemed like a white, haunted tangle of trees.
Yet, a teenage girl wandered the woods, maybe in search of a Pansear, wrapped up in a thick navy blue dress coat. She held her golden hair to her throat, hoping that it would keep her warm.
A strong glow emanated from an unexplored part of the trees. She wandered closer.
What was that? A Pokemon? It didn't seem like it. It would've blended into the snow, but it glowed brightly and was covered in black, orange and violet flecks. A strange, screeching noise came from the monster.
The girl dropped behind a tree. Fear flashed in her icy eyes. Carefully, she crept towards it, hoping it couldn't see her, and reached out to touch it. A searing pain, cold yet warm, spread through her. She tried to snatch her hand back, but it wouldn't budge. After a few short moments, she was flung back into a tree, and the creature was no longer there. Instead, there was another girl. She looked exactly the same as the traveller, but her hair was the same as the creature's markings and her eyes matched perfectly. They were pupilless, too.
The girls stepped towards each other.
