This is a story I am writing about the RP studio, Looking Glass Academy RP. It is from my character Shimmer's perspective.
Also, don't ask about the accents. Just don't.
And I will be adding to this regularly!
In a cold winter of the cold cold town of Jeuellà, a young girl stared out of her bedroom window. At the snow, the big sullen grey mountain looming over the town, and the treeless white field below the mansion in which she lived. Her sister, Shîne, was somewhere on that mountain. The hunting party outside, hunting for meat for the people to eat found something. Something big, good and meaty. They pounced, with spears and bows, screaming a war cry. It was the only sound that broke the snowy silence, apart from the everlasting rumble of the sea to the east. But this one girl thought she heard something over the cry. A musical 8-note tune, a run up, then three notes back down, never quite ending...
Shîne's favourite tune. Her last word. And the girl by the window, Shimmèr Jewélliè, from by the window, sobbed. She knew now, she would never see Shîne again. The only other meat the hunting party found was dead meat, they didn't scream as they had done. All the animals were hibernating, otherwise. The people living in this cold town were good at starving. They had to be.
Does Shimmer appear a bit too weird?
Does the town come into your head?
Do the accents make this a little TOO weird?
Erm, now let's continue XD
"Shimmèr!!!" called my mother, Rubi, as I lugged (well, pretended to) my bag downstairs.
"What?" I said, tiredly. It was colder than usual, the weather was unusually biting, and I was not in a good mood.
"Shimmèr, would you please not use the accents on your name? You know, just call yourself Shimmer Jewellie? Just for school purposes, you know, it'll make things much easier."
"Okay..." I drawled. I'd always rather hated having an accent on my name. I checked the new rules for my school, Looking Glass Academy.
"We advise you not to go near the mirrors.
Do not bring looking glasses into school"
Jeuellà was the train's launch point, the first stop, the furthest place north, so I found my 'cabin' and unpacked. Only last year I had Shine with me, singing, humming, and playing on her oboe. And two years before that, Sparkle, being horribly cheerful.
My best friend, Susi, has never and will never get on this train. She lives on the roof of the school. So I'm alone.
I was playing piano in the hobbies room (I'd been doing that the entire journey) when Quiana came in, yelling and whirling a wooden model of a sword. She saw me and mocked.
"You're the girl from You-ell-a? Shim-air? Why do you have an ACCENT on your name, silly girl? We're not in FRANCE, or anything!"
"It's Shimmer." I said, quietly. "Shimmer Jewellie. And I've never understood the accents."
After that, I decided to shut myself in a cupboard, then find Ada, Susi's friend. I never quite got to the second part. But I shut myself in a cupboard, and heard some news.
"Old Rubi says that when Shimmer's old enough to take her test the stop of You-ell-a can be removed"
"What are all these new rules? I can't do makeup in school any more!!!"
"Haven't seen Ada, have you? She's meant to get on at this stop"
"Miss Burilla, did you go to this school as a child?" someone asked the friendly music teacher.
"Yes, I did. And you won't know how old the the family at... You-ell-a is until I say that in my year, there were two of Rubi's twins- Glênt and Gló. Glow was really nice, but no one ever trusted Glint." Yes, Glint and Glow Jewellie. The ones I never met. They took their test really early, so we never saw them. They died. In winter. In Jeuellà. Probably by hunters. As will I, if I don't escape.
I'm still writing this, but I'd love some opinions please! Do you like this? Do you think anyone's a little too weird, or the setting? And of course, I'd like general feedback as well :D
