When you go to SeaWorld and look at the orcas, and watch the shows they preform, you think they're having a fun time, right?
A lot of orcas in captivity were taken away from their family, some even having their parents killed infront of them. as if being kidnapped wasn't enough. Some tanks aren't even deep enough for the orcas to dive, and that's what they do in the wild, ALOT.
also, orcas in captivity have fins that flop over to one side. Orcas in the wild have straight and much more sturdy fins.
Some mother orcas in captivity are too depressed to care for their children. there was one orca at seaworld who was so sad, cramped and depressed, he repeatedly headbutted the side of the tank, and it would shake. that orca died later because of some sort of brain damage. The orcas will just stare at the walls when they aren't preforming. its terrible. There was another orca who was so fed up of being trapped in a tiny tank, that he ate his trainer.
and from what I've heard, not a SINGLE orca in captivity has died from old age. it was all from stress, depression, self hurting and possibly for the orca pups, starvation.
