They walked for a while, Smol meme growing fatigued after a short while, the pain in his side growing stronger and more persistent. Smol meme couldn't help but sit down as Tall meme and Angel Bean were walking in the park.
"What's wrong, Smol meme?" Asked Tall meme as Smol meme began to whine. The pain was throbbing now.
"Does he need a vet? Did he get a bee sting or something?" Angel Bean asked as Tall meme ran his hands through Smol meme's fur to try to detect what was paining him. His hand stopped along Smol meme's side where the pain was, his fingers going over a lump in Smol meme's skin.
"Jesus, Angel Bean. He needs a vet."
Smol meme had been to the vet before, and he hated it. He left feeling empty. He left without the mojo he had before, but that was when he was a puppy. It was uncomfortable to sit properly for a few weeks, though, and Smol meme remembered the place where he slept as they did something to him. It smelled of lemon wipes and sterile things, the scent stinging Smol meme's nose.
The Lady Vet came into the room and looked Smol meme over, checking his ears, his teeth, his eyes, and even his paws.
"I believe he has a tumor right here--" Tall meme said quietly as the vet asked what was wrong.
What was a tumor? Smol meme didn't know. Whatever it was would be cured by Tall meme, though. He always knew what to do to help Smol meme.
The vet ran her hands over Smol meme's sides, her right hand coming upon the bump on his ribs. Smol meme let out a whine.
"We'll have to take an X-Ray to be sure... are you willing to--"
"Yes, whatever it takes to help. I'll do anything." Tall meme said, looking at Smol meme with a sadness in his eyes.
They took Smol meme into a room with a metal table.
"Be a good boy, Smol meme. Sit, yes. Good boy." The Lady Vet coaxed him to sit his hindquarters down on the cold metal. It was like Angel Bean's reflection glass.
After a few minutes, Smol meme was brought into the room where Tall meme was, and he sat next to him as The Lady Vet told him about something called Cancer. She told him about how it could be treated, she told him that the life expectancy wasn't very high for pets.
That made Tall meme very, very sad.
Smol meme licked Tall meme's cheek, but it did nothing to help. The Lady Vet looked sad, and she left the room after giving Tall meme a piece of paper with writing and pictures of dogs and machines and needles on it.
Tall meme called over a box with wheels and they went home in silence.
Over the next few days, Smol meme felt very ill. Whenever Tall meme saw him, he would cry.
"I can't save him, Angel Bean. I can't. He can't leave me."
Smol meme was scared and confused. Was he the cause of Tall meme's sadness?
Tall meme and Smol meme went to the vet often after that, The Vets and others poking him with needles and hooking Smol meme up to machines with water bags. Was it water?
The Lady Vet, however, had disappeared. Smol meme never saw her again after that day when Tall meme told him that he was going to be okay. The day before all of this pain and needle-sticking started.
The Vets wrapped Smol meme's leg in an odd material to keep a plastic piece with a nozzle attached to it on. Whenever Smol meme went to the vet, they would attach the water bags to the nozzle with tubes.
Smol meme began to lose his hair.
Tall meme and Angel Bean cried more often.
Smol meme couldn't walk.
Smol meme couldn't eat.
The lump in his side grew bigger.
The pain grew to unbearable.
Smol meme was dying.
