“Canter, Beauty.” said twelve year old Melissa Van Cruz to her pure white Arabian horse. “Good Girl!” said Melissa. “Nice job!” said eleven year old Willa NaBosco as she walked her black Barb named Dreamlight. “Thanks,” said Melissa. “I’m practicing for the Lakeside open.”
“It’s feeding time.” said fifteen year old Christina Albaña nicknamed Christie. “We’re coming” said Melissa. Willa walked to the barn too, along with thirteen year old Emmabella Hokum and nine year old Maria NaBosco. Ten year old Lexis Marie joined them as well. Melissa fed Beauty and Willa fed Dreamlight. Emmabella fed her golden Palomino, Webster; Maria fed her pure brown Hackney, Bow; Lexis fed her Bay colored Quarter horse, Scotty; and Christie fed her black colored Mustang, Rivera.
The next day, all of the girls decided to practice for the Lakeside open. Melissa is doing the jumping class; Willa is doing the dressage class; Emmabella is doing the hunter jumping class; Maria is doing the First riding class; Lexis is doing the harness class; and Christie is doing the showing class. After the girls practiced Willa said “Let’s wash the horses, before they get, well…DIRTY!” “She has a point, girls.” said Lexis and Melissa at the same time. The girls all washed their horses and started to talk.
“I know that we are going to be competing against our biggest rivals Dandy Gate Riding Academy.” said Maria in surprise. “Wait, if we are competing against Dandy Gate we’ll have to work harder.” said Christie. “We’ll also have to wash twice a day.” said Emmabella. “We have to win the team cross-country because the academy that wins that event gets the big golden trophy that says, Academy of the Year.” said Melissa.
The next day, all the girls practiced in different arenas. Melissa and Emmabella practiced in the outdoor jumping arena; Willa practiced in the dressage arena; Maria and Christie practiced in the regular arena; and Lexis practiced in the driving arena.
After practicing, the girls washed their horses and talked. “Let’s feed the horses Alfalfa mix in the morning and Salisan mix in the afternoon.” said Melissa. “For lunch we can feed the horses Energy mix.” said Willa as she dried Dreamlight with a water scraper. “We can feed them hay for snack.” said Maria as she rinsed Bow. “Let’s wake up early tomorrow, it’s going to be a big day.” said Christie after shampooing Rivera. A car approached “honk-honk”. “Hurry up Lexis, my car is here!” shouted Emmabella. “Where are you going, Lexis?” asked Melissa. “I’m going home, but my mom can’t pick me up because she’s helping dad at his work, so Emmabella is taking me home.” replied Lexis as she ran to Emmabella’s car which was a red Mercedes.
The next day early in the morning, all of the girls fed their horses and washed them, then tacked them up to practice with them. Beauty nickered to tell the horses… “Here comes the rivals, oh no, oh no!”
