Autism and similar disabilities are often seen as nothing but a disadvantage by most outsiders. However, Autism, though it does bring many challenges to one's life, can also enrich life in ways unknown to most people.
If you're here at this studio and you are Autistic/Neurodiverse, welcome! Feel free to add projects relating to Autism and Neurodiversity and talk about your questions and experiences in the comments.
If you are at this studio and you are not Neurodiverse (aka Neurotypical, or NT), welcome! Half the point of this studio is educating about Autism and spreading the concept of neurodiversity. Feel free to ask questions or simply chat in the comments.
If you are here and you think you MIGHT be Autistic/Neurodiverse, you can use this studio to figure out if you want to pursue an official diagnosis. Remember, though, it's always best to talk to the professionals.
If you want to join the studio, just ask! If you join, we do ask that you comply to some rules:
1. Be respectful- answer questions patiently, and do not bully.
2. Keep conversations and projects at least mostly on topic- if you add a project that has nothing to do with the studio, it will be removed.
3. Managers- ask me ( @indigowrites) before you change the studio thumbnail or change the description more than a small edit
If you have ideas for any more rules, comment them!

Some people and organisations (specifically Autism Speaks) see Autism as something that needs to be cured. They think it best to try to turn us "normal" rather than help us live our lives to the fullest. As of 2017, less than 2% of the Autism Speaks budget went towards "Family Services." For comparison, 16% went to fundraising. Autistic people will continue to live in world that refuses to help us until we speak up and bring understanding that our existence is not worse than a pandemic. We are different, and that's okay.
The Pros of Autism:
-Focus: many Autistic people will become incredibly focused on something that they are interested in
-Honesty: we tend to be very blunt, but that also means we are honest, legitimate people
-Retaining facts: when we like something, we often like to know everything about it, which means we can have amazing fact recall
-Attention to detail: we sometimes notice things that others do not
-Creativity: we think differently than "normal" people, but because of this we might come up with solutions that others can't and see sides of an issue that other's don't
-etc, etc, etc.

What is your opinion on the symbolism surrounding autism awareness? Do you prefer the autism "pride flag" and infinity symbol, or do you like the puzzle piece?
