A few moons later...
Loinstar stood at the top of the RockPile, looking down at the two kits.
"Hawkkit, today is your sixth moon, and it is time for you to become a apprentice." his voice had a heavy accent to it. "From now on, your name will be Hawkpaw. Your mentor will be Stoneheart."
He looked at the tall cat. "Stoneheart, you may of had kits with a cat from another clan, but your strength and courage has shown me your place. Give this apprentice all of your knowledge and skills."
Stoneheart walked over to Hawkpaw and touched noses with her.
Loinstar turned and looked at Shadowkit. "Shadowkit, from now on you will be called Shadowpaw. I will be you mentor."
He jumped down from the pile and touched noses with the small she-cat. "Meeting dismissed." The other cats walked away and got back to their duties.
"Stoneheart." Loinstar mewed. "I am not Shadowpaw's mentor, you will mentor both apprentices. I trust that you will be fair on both on them." Stoneheart nodded and mewed ''Come on, both of you." He turned and stalked off, with shadowpaw and hawkpaw racing after him.
Shadowpaw was crouching under a small cliff, watching a eagle pecking at the ground. She creeped slowly up to it. She jumped and landed on its back. The eagle screeched and took off into the sky. Shadowpaw dug her claws into its back and sank her teeth into its neck. She let out a yowl of terror as the eagle stopped flying and fell down to the ground. She closed her eyes and prayed to Moonshine that she wont die. All of a sudden she was pulled off the eagle and dropped gently onto the ground.
"Be careful next time." Her father's voice rumbled. "Did you see that Hawkpaw? That is how you hunt a eagle. Not by racing up to it and being surprised when it flys away." Hawkpaw looked down at the ground. "yes Stoneheart..." She mewed. Shadowpaw looked at her and walked over to her friend. "Its ok! You'll get it next time!"
She mewed and looked up at her father.
"Get your prey Shadowpaw and lets go back to camp."
Shadowpaw grinned and picked up the large eagle, not seeing Hawkpaw's jealous glare at her and trotted next to her father all the way back to camp.
