This year's coding competition has a great new theme: Melody. The greatest of games we play all have amazing soundtracks. Whether its from the PS2 of old with titles such as Wipeout 2097, online games such as flOw or twitch-like controlled games such as Super Hexagon, each has a score that piques interest.
Sound FX and a great soundtrack is key to every game.
However, with every game the playability and how it hooks you in has to match. If the controls don't work or the player can't progress, today's games quickly become digital dust.
So, the quest is on for our junior kids to produce compelling games from the slimmest of resources. Restrictions and boundaries force us to be creative. Do you have the know-how to be able to put your designs into action? Or can can you build a team to collectively program something brilliant?
That's the creative side, now bring on the showmanship and death-defying speed.
