In the mountains of North Carolina, cats were continually abandoned by their owners into the wilderness to fend for themselves. Most cats perished, for the cold winters and the wild animals were too much for them.
However some survived, and over time, more and more cats were left by careless owners. The cats that survived realized that to ensure long-term longevity for themselves, they must band together to protect themselves from threats of malicious creatures, starvation, and harsh winter. These were the first 'tribes' in these mountains. The original cats in these 'tribes' were house cats, so they had to learn how to survive with their changed lives. They fulfilled their instincts of hunting, and perfected the art, passing it down generation to generation.
The former house cats began to abandon their old ways of comfort, and adopted the more practical wild temperament to help them survive. The cats organized themselves into groups of warring tribes, whom constantly fought with one another over prey, territory, and members.
Eventually, the cats realized that this fighting was getting them nowhere, so a code of conduct was created to keep order between the tribes. This code established rules for borders, prey control, soldier conduct, and other basic rules for which order could be kept. In this initial code of conduct, it stated that the several small warring tribes should be merged into two large tribes, and the tribes would live on the land that suited their needs best. One tribe settled the more forested region, littered with Pine trees. This became the Tribe of Shaded Pines, for the area was protected from the sun due to the dense foliage. The other tribe settled the rockier region on the other bank of the river, where the rapids could protect them from invasion, and more deciduous trees flourished in the forest. These cats became the Tribe of Bright Stones, as the sun reflects the soaked stones of the river.
However, not all of the cats wished for this split. Some rebelled against the idea of two large tribes, and left to fend for themselves. These cats became Loners, and were generally expelled to live in the darker, uninhabited region across the river. The cats generally kept to themselves, and did not work together, but once their territory began to be raided and pillaged by the larger tribes, they realized that they must organize to protect themselves. For a while at least. This cooperation only occurs when the loners' area is under threat of invasion. At any other time, the loners do not band together as a tribe, and generally fight against each other for control over the most territory.
The tribes worship the spirits of their ancestors, along with spirits in nature, and they decided to establish traditions for worship for their descendants to follow. Offerings to the spirits are to be given on every full moon before the Great Assembly. The Healers and their Healer Trainees are to travel to the Sacred Place (which is located in the cave behind the waterfall at the mouth of the great river) on the night of the New Moon to communicate with the spirits.
-Proper Grammar and Spelling must be used while roleplaying.
-Refrain from using emoticons in RP posts. (Ex. “In Soviet Russia, TV watches you! :D” Joseph meowed. Instead, write the emotion in a way like this: “In Soviet Russia, TV watches you!” Joseph meowed with a smile.
-Your character CANNOT be a: Vampire, Werewolf, Witch, Sorcerer, Mythological god, winged cat, ghost, cat hybrid, mutant, etc. It's unnatural, and most of the time, they end up being either 'Mary Sues' or very irritating to RP with.
-Your character CAN be a: Cannibal, Psychopath, Murderer, Schizophrenic, Bipolar, or basically any other Psychological disorders as long as there is a legitimate reason.
-There will be no more new tribes created. If you wish to have a tribe (clan) cat, they must be in either Tribe of Shaded Pines, or Tribe of Bright Stones.
-If your cat is a loner, it will most likely reside in the dark area designated to loners. The territory is harsh and rugged, so the Tribe cats did not settle the area.
-Names are either normal names such as “Nikita” or a word such as “Hatred”, or they are normal clan names such as “Sparkshadow” or “Cedarflare”. While the groups are called “Tribes” they do not name themselves in the manner that the Tribes in the Warriors books do. These tribes are completely separate in names, traditions, and mannerisms.
The Code of Conduct:
(This RPG's equivalent of the “Warrior Code” )
The Code of Conduct that the tribes in this RPG follow is separate from the Warrior Code of the Warriors books. The rules listed in the Code of Conduct are listed below. Certain rules have not been developed yet, as they have not caused problems as of yet.
-Do not kill any cat. Especially ones within your own tribe.
-The only circumstance when another cat may be killed is when members of your tribe are under threat of death.
-Kits are to be helped if they are in peril. Regardless of tribe, or if they are a loner.
-You may possess friendly relations towards members of other tribes, but your loyalty may not transfer to that member's tribe. Your tribe comes before your friends.
-There is to be no mating between members of different tribes.
-There is to be no mating between tribe cats and loners.
-Healers are not to have mates. They must remain detached from the physical world in order to be closer to our ancestors and the nature spirits.
-Do not trespass onto the land of other tribes. The territory of loners, however, is fair game.
-Defend the borders, and mark them daily. If any cat dares to invade, challenge them.
-Do not mingle with loners who have not renounced their rogue ways.
-However, if a loner joins your tribe, greet the cat as if it has always been a member of your tribe.
-Kits, Queens, and Elders are first to be cared for, as they are unable to fend for themselves.
-Do not kill more prey than is necessary. If too much prey is killed, prey will be unable to reproduce fast enough to recover, and there will be a prey shortage that will lead to starvation.
-Kits are to be at least 5 moons old to become a trainee.
-The 2nd-in-Command will become leader only when the current Head of the tribe is unable to lead. This can be from old age, disability, or death.
-The Head of the tribe commands attention and respect. Do not disobey them.
-A meeting between both tribes will be held on the night of the full moon. This is known as the “Great Assembly”. The tribes will meet on the banks of the river, on their respective territories, and the Heads of the tribes will speak on the great rock in the center of the river for all to see and hear. There are also offerings to the nature spirits, and to the spirits of the tribe's ancestors at these ceremonies.
