Why is the MIDI less developed in 2.0?
Scratch 1.4's MIDI was amazing. It was astounding, and sometimes sounded like real instruments. You could create great sounding music using the instrumental note blocks in 1.4.
But now in 2.0, there's way less than one third of the instruments to choose from, the noises sound less like actual instruments, they appear to be a lower quality, even, and to top it all off, the piano was removed, making it harder to find correct notes.
Why were all the good Sound features taken away? I would assume there's some good reason, but I have no idea what that would be.

Squeak has all those sounds built-in, but flash has NONE, so the st Has to make them themselves.

Why is the MIDI less developed in 2.0?
I know i was dissapointed with the midi sounds on offer etc.. but then again 1.4 did not come close to what is offer for free music software elsewhere.
Try linux multi media studio, and audacity.. and maybe try and get a copy of ableton lite software..as you can sequence midi tracks alongside wave tracks..
but there seems to be a plethora of music software around which i haven't tried yet..all with capabilites beyond scratch 1.4.

I do use Audacity, but I can't use it for MIDI sounds like 1.4. I'm looking for a program to make music using MIDI, or MIDI-like noises.
I just miss being able to create it in Scratch… As proof, that I made it, I guess.

Long story short - Scratch 1.4 uses the MIDI sounds on your computer (or the Java MIDI sound bank for the case of the old online player). Flash does not use MIDI sounds, so the ST had to make their own sound library (which is still a work in progress). Scratch 1.4's MIDI was amazing. It was astounding, and sometimes sounded like real instruments. You could create great sounding music using the instrumental note blocks in 1.4.
