What is a "penpal" thread?

What is a "penpal" thread? - Discuss Scratch
What are these forums?
The reason I'm writing this is because I've seen one of these get closed, So I'm concerned if they're against the rules,
I wonder why people make these instead of projects or studios, It's not a massive issue, But still curious.
Edit: It may be due to some character limits I think

What is a "penpal" thread?

I think people make them because forums are more like writing pen-pal messages back and forth
They get closed because it's practically a chatroom in the forums which is against the rules.

Not that I think so
Scratch Team sometimes takes days to close dupes so maybe that's why some are still open

I think a lot of them are related to Scratch Writing Camp, where signing up to be someone's penpal is an activity you can do to add more words to your writing. I'm not sure why they would get closed because I'm assuming the scratchers who organize SWC wouldn't make activities that violate rules

It's only on Scratch, so searching it on Google or something wouldn't be very helpful, but this link might help if you're curious https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1350105570

There are lots of topics like these mainly on the “Collaboration” and “Things I'm making Creating” forums. Also, you will find a lot of studios about this when you're active long enough.

Yeah it's unofficial but what I'm saying is that it would have been shut down already if it wasn't allowed so I'm not sure why they would be getting closed

I don't know; I don't get involved in these topics, but as far as I know, that's a whole different side of Scratch.

Oh okay. Maybe it isn’t allowed since it’s kind of a chatroom thread.
