hello and welcome to my application for shapeshifterkit! this whole character is built around themes of identity and belonging, and how their ability overlaps with their sense of self. being a shapeshifter is not all they are, but it influences many aspects of their life and how they perceive fluidity positively. i hope you enjoy reading.

ㅤㅤ♡ i do dance, hip hop specifically, and have been dancing for years. i also enjoy reading (sometimes </3) and drawing (sometimes) although i have not found the motivation recently which is rather unfortunate. i like to draw here on scratch, but my drawing tablet won't connect to this computer so tbh it's just my finger on the trackpad (or whatever it's called). i'm happily taken! i went into a deep pit of inactivity last year but now i'm back hopefully i'm 14-17, and i'm trying really hard to do well in school so if i'm ever inactive know i'm studying or something. i also love playing minecraft and other video games, and have an unhealthy obsession with arcane. i'm wlw, and asexual most likely ^^ my timezone is est. i'm on from 11 am to around 3 am! ( i love my sleep schedule! )

ㅤ» why i'm applying .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ for starters, i used to be a huge pokemon kid, and my girlfriend still is so this feels like a way to remind myself of her. when i was really into pokemon, i really liked the eeveelutions lol, so this is actually awesome. for my second reason, i've wanted to get back into tss really badly. i missed roleplaying silly fantasy cats! the community is so kind and wonderful, and i've had wonderful experiences with everyone throughout my time on scratch. my third reason will have to be the clan. around 4-5 years ago, i'd say, my favorite oc would always have wings! i think i have a soft spot for falconcats due to this, and i've never had the chance to roleplay a cat in falconclan, so this would be the perfect opportunity. for my fourth reason, i really like the concept for shapeshifter, and the fact that they are, well, a shapeshifter! there's so many interesting, cool ways this can go plot-wise, and it opens so many chances for plot and roleplays. finally, i really like each of the designs for the different forms. to sum it up, i'm applying because the design is adorable, i would like to be part of tss and falconclan specifically, there's many possible plots and ideas for them, and i have an open slot!

ㅤ» why i should win .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ this is always a tough question to answer, because it sounds entitled no matter how you say it! i would like to start out by saying that there's already so many awesome applicants for shapeshifter, each with their own ideas and amazing writing, that are just as deserving as me to win. however, if i do win shapeshifter, i will give them a long, hopefully eventful life. i will be very dedicated and try my best to have character development and lots of plot.

ㅤ» roleplay experience .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ i'm honestly not sure how long i've been roleplaying, but i believe it's been since 2020. it was whenever i first joined scratch, and my first roleplay ever taught me so much. i was a part of quite a number of now dead roleplays after that, and those helped me grow into the person i am today! i was part of tss for about a year with captaintide, but he died in the fall after ~55 moons of living. he was my first ever tss cat and i'm glad i got to join for the first time with him. however, since he's dead, i'm ready for a new chance. i've been roleplaying in other rps, tfc specifically, for the last 2 years, which is pretty crazy. to sum it up, i've been roleplaying for a very long time and am excited to hopefully continue that.

ㅤ» activity levels .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ before my hiatus/inactivity, i'd say i was at around like a 9.5 or something out of 10, due to the fact that i was a huge screen-ager and constantly checking scratch. over my break, i'd say i dropped to around a 2 or 3, unfortunately. now that i'm back, i'd say currently, since it's summer, i'm at around a 9.5/10 yet again, but during the year i think i can stay at around a 7 or 8! i do try to check scratch as often as possible, though!

ㅤ» longevity .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ i usually keep my characters for around like 70-80 moons? in tfcrp, sunny's currently 93 and will probably stick around for another month or two!! dew's gleam has passed at 80, and oriole is 63! in this roleplay, captaintide died at around 53 moons, but that was because i lost attachment and didn't have the energy to roleplay. i will definitely be keeping this kit for the allotted 40 moons, and probably longer. i'd want them to live until their 60s or 70s at the least.

ㅤ» harm notes .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ physically, i don't harm my characters that often. i believe in the idea that every scar tells a story– for example, shapeshifter should be able to look back on a scar and remember what it's from. scars should teach a lesson, or be relevant to plot or character development. i used to pointlessly hurt my characters, but looking back, that wasn't the best strategy and definitely not the best for their arcs! this was years ago, though, and i was a lot younger. if you look at the characters i currently have, i've only really given them a couple of scars.
ㅤㅤ♡ mentally, most of my characters go through an emo/depressed phase due to deaths of their family members and the nature of activity checks. this also usually happens for plot/character growth, though, not just pointless harm. i try to not overdo it.

ㅤ» reply length .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ i usually write around 2-3 comments when i roleplay, probably closer to 3. sometimes even 4, though that's very rare and happens only when i'm feeling extremely motivated. i typically match the person in length. for example, if they're replying with only 1 comment, i will match them. this is for a couple of reasons, one of which being i don't want to overwhelm them or anything. another reason is that it's rough writing a lot when there's not that much to work with, but i try my best!! sometimes, when i'm not feeling motivated or great, i also only write around a comment.

ㅤㅤ❥ introspective. someone who examines their own feelings, thoughts, and motivations to better their understanding of themselves.
ㅤㅤㅤ˚₊‧꒰ა they have a tendency to examine their own thoughts and emotion, trying to reflect on them and improve. shape desperately wishes to understand themselves, engaging in self-reflection in order to find areas for growth and meaning behind their experiences. this leads to them being pretty self-aware, but also tend to overthink and can lead to self-criticism.

ㅤㅤᜊ cynical. distrusting others' motives, with the belief that people are driven by self-interest rather than honesty or goodwill.
ㅤㅤㅤ˚₊‧꒰ა they have a tendency to question the sincerity and motives of others. they are skeptical of others' intentions, believing that those cats are primarily motivated by self-interest rather than goodwill. they have a very cautious outlook and this often leads to them scrutinizing those that try to get close to them for selfish motivations. despite this helping shay by promoting critical thinking and helping them be less likely to fall victim to manipulation, it also strains their relationships, unless they trust that person a lot.

ㅤㅤᜊ sensitive. responding strongly to emotions, criticism, or the environment, being deeply aware of one's feelings.
ㅤㅤㅤ˚₊‧꒰ა shape has a heightened awareness of their feelings, and heightened responsiveness to experiences and environmental stimuli. they notice subtle emotional cues and are strongly affected by events that happen around or to them, whether it be positive or negative. they tend to take criticism and conflict more personally, often being upset at even the thought of someone being upset with them or rejection.

ㅤㅤᜊ forgetful . frequently having difficulty remembering details.
ㅤㅤㅤ˚₊‧꒰ა shapeshifter tends to unintentionally overlook or not remember details. they have difficulty remembering names, where they placed things, and many other things. this often gets worse when they are distracted, stressed, or multi-tasking. it's often impacted by tiredness, attention, or just how much they have going on.

ㅤㅤᜊ impulsive . having a tendency to act quickly, or without forethought.
ㅤㅤㅤ˚₊‧꒰ა shape acts quickly based on immediate thoughts and reactions rather than waiting to think about it or plan ahead. they are rather spontaneous, responding rapidly to situations and leads to them making decisions that are rash, not considering the long-term effects. how impulsive they are depends on their emotional state, but they enjoy acting on opportunities.

ㅤ» future identity .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ i imagine shapeshifter would be genderfluid or unlabeled or something similar, because just like them as they go between the different territories, their identity shifts and changes depending on how they are feeling then. they're aiab, so they're used to others referring to them with they/them pronouns. due to this, they have a slight preference for those. however, any work, and shape probably won't mind! i imagine they'd also try out neopronouns, singular, specifically, so something like ae/aer or xe/xem. they will see the fact they are intersex as affirming, most likely, validating the fluidity. the fact that they are a shapeshifter also affirms it for them. future pronouns probably will be he/it/they/xe, though any work.
ㅤㅤ♡ as a kit or apprentice will probably try out he/they pronouns, though most of this application will be written in they/them!
ㅤㅤ♡ this is a slightly different idea, but none of this is set in stone so i want to explore the possibilities! they might also be more female-aligned, using pronouns she/they/fae or something like that? transfem perchance, although i'm not sure.
ㅤㅤ♡ i imagine they would be androsexual in the future, figuring this out around their late apprentice moons when they get a crush. also, maybe somewhere on the aroace spectrum. this is all up to change in the future, but these are the ideas i currently have!

ㅤ» research .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ intersex - what it is: going into as much detail as i can while still being scratch-friendly, if someone is intersex, it means they don't fall under the female or male binary. for example, you could have both male and female traits, a mix, or neither! sometimes, you can't even tell without genetic testing (which these cats, fantasy or not, do not have access to.) while most individuals have chromosomes that are either xy (male) or xx (female), those who are intersex may have a mix of cells with different chromosomes, extra chromosomes (like xxy), or only one x chromosome (xo). in cast, it also leads to infertility.
ㅤㅤ♡ intersex- effects on character: as i mentioned above, in the future identity section, shapeshifter will probably view it as validating. as for the infertility, it wouldn't matter to them anyways, as they wouldn't want biological kits.

ㅤ» dynamics .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ shapeshifter will love hoopoe quite a lot, enjoying spending time with her, whether it be playing games or just chatting. the two of them will have a good relationship, with shay referring to her as “ma” or “mama”. they may tease her and refer to her as “mother” sometimes, but it's just fun and games. in their head, hoopoe is their ma, not their mother. they will love learning new things and listening to the lessons their mama may have for them. i imagine they might pull mischievous pranks together sometimes, though nothing too trouble-making. shape will not hold the fact that hoopoe didn't tell them about their ability earlier than apprenticeship against her, being understanding about it. to them, the need to keep them safe makes sense. however, if she were to continue trying to protect them when shay just wanted to explore/see the world, then they may have an argument. however, i also would like to have a good parent-child relationship, so nothing too drastic!

ㅤ» trivia and ideas .. ?
ㅤㅤ♡ i've thought a lot about where i'd like to take the character if i win, but i'm just simply not sure yet. they don't really know if they belong with their family. i was lying awake last night and thinking about this, actually!

ㅤㅤ♡ view on self: shapeshifter doesn't always know what they're feeling. they view their feelings as fluid and ever-changing, which makes it difficult for them to articulate. they don't think they're perfect, but they do like themselves, most of the time at least. they love each of their forms, but their favorite is probably falconcat, as that's what they're most used to. however, they tend to lose themselves, forget who they are truly. they grasp for pieces of their identity, wanting to know who they truly are and discover more about themselves.
ㅤㅤ♡ view on clan: shapeshifter loves falconclan, as this is where they grew up. they're most used to this form of themselves, and this is where their family is. they have an attachment to it, and despite technically being able to go anywhere, always try to return. however, they view the fireweed strike system as something to slow them down and hold them back. however, i think that shapi might be able to go to other territories without the leader being aware due to the fact that they can shapeshift and pretend to be one of the other groups.
ㅤㅤ♡ view on shapeshifting: they enjoy being able to shift quite a lot. it gives them a way to change when they need to switch things up, and it gives them the ability to see how others live without a. the fear of being caught trespassing and b. the ability to exist in an otherwise awful environment for someone of their species. they like being able to shapeshift, and in the future may view it as a sort of escape from who they are. they'll pretend to be someone they're not. they'll try to change, they'll try to get a fresh start. over time, they may forget where they belong. they may have to search.
ㅤㅤ♡ view on starclan and the dark forest: shapeshifter believes in both starclan and the dark forest. they fear going to the dark forest, even as a kit. will being rude send them there? will not listening to their elders? as they grow, some of that fear will fade, turning into a kind of curiosity. shapeshifter isn't an evil cat, so they don't think they have to fear it anymore. they wonder if their ability to change forms is a blessing from starclan, or on the worse days, perhaps a curse– not having a true form, not being able to truly belong.

ㅤㅤ♡ something that i can see happening sometime in the future that would be a very interesting plot point for shapeshifter is them arguing with someone, perchance distracted and upset and angry, and accidentally crossing the border to the rest of the non-flying cat territories. they crash, land hard on the ground, and are injured. from here, perhaps the cat they are arguing with tries to help them, and it leads to them forgiving each other. or, possibly, maybe the cats of that territory see a falconcat attacking/harassing one of their own and go to save them
ㅤㅤ♡ in their older moons, would travel between the territories, unsuspected, and see what life is truly like. they want to see the world, they want to know what's beyond the borders. they want to be out there and see things. maybe them traveling between the territories could turn into a clan-hopper situation. they can live practically anywhere, why not use it to their advantage?
ㅤㅤ♡ a period of time not knowing who they truly are. what is their true form? who are they really? between their genderfluidity and shapeshifting, especially the latter, there will probably be a point where they're just confused and lost and not sure what they're doing. this could lead them to try and visit the other clans, see what life is like, figure out where they really belong. maybe this will also lead to a deep conversation with hoopoe about where they were found, relearning everything about themselves. maybe they'll visit the place. maybe they'll sit there, until they finally decide who they are. it's poetic, really, a shapeshifter losing themselves. not remembering their own face in other territories. desperately staring at their own reflection for a hint of familiarity in their eyes. maybe shapeshifter's family doesn't recognize them in some forms. maybe /they/ don't recognize themselves.
ㅤㅤ♡ another idea would be getting stuck in another territory, stuck in an injured form and unable to get out. trying to get used to it, trying to get out, while also struggling with the sense of self. while it's wonderful to have the ability to change appearance/species when in different places, it also can cause them to get stuck. and of course, they have to figure out how to swim and all of that. while other falconcats can just fly across the territories if needed, shapeshifter will not be able to and get frustrated. this will probably lead to them getting stuck somewhere and desperately trying to get out, to return back to the form they feel most comfortable in, the falconcat form (for now), itching for their wings and itching to fly out of there as fast as possible.

ㅤㅤ♡ they could possibly be used a spy in the future, sent into other clans' territories during tense times and going unnoticed. then returning and giving back information. maybe getting caught, trapped and held prisoner, far away from their home.
ㅤㅤ♡ fake friends. or maybe not fake friends, but losing friends, slowly. losing their best friend, slowly but surely. this will probably cause them to be depressed. this would probably happen around their apprentice or young warrior moons, and make them slow to trust after that.
ㅤㅤ♡ shay may also have a crisis about who they are. they think about it relatively often, but this would be full-blown and desperate. they'll feel like they've changed to much, both as personality-wise and form-wise. forlorn and consumed by the search, fixated on who they used to be.
ㅤㅤ♡ they are welcome everywhere yet belong nowhere. may be seen as a sort of bridge between species, or a spy.
ㅤㅤ♡ will feel rather ashamed at gatherings because they will look like a loner, not part of falconclan. this will also probably be how they/the rest of their clan finds out.

ㅤㅤ♡ due to their ability to shapeshift, they view fluidity as a more positive thing, and learn to appreciate the changes in life rather than fear them. new experiences are chances to grow, and they adapt well.

ㅤㅤ♡ i imagine them making quite a number of friends throughout their life, those that are okay with them being on their territory, maybe excusing it as “they're a seacat at the moment, why does it matter?” these friends will never be that close to shay though.
ㅤㅤ♡ when their ma reveals to them that they can shapeshift, as coco said, upon them becoming an apprentice, i imagine they will be rather excited, and probably not too upset at hoopoe for keeping it from them. later in their life, however, they might be upset because they can't seem to figure out who/what they are.
ㅤㅤ♡ like a changeling, doesn't feel like they truly belong anywhere. doesn't know if they belong with their family.
ㅤㅤ♡ draws others to them, but never seems to maintain the relationships

ㅤㅤ♡ collects little trinkets as memory, often has a specific object or thing linked to a memory or person. though this can be a happy, positive thing, can also negatively affect them because if they have a negative association with some object, it may lead them to be upset upon seeing it and avoiding it. these associations take a long, long time to go away, and some might be affecting them for their whole life.
ㅤㅤ♡ enjoys gardening and caring for plants. i imagine maybe they'd find some kind of half dead plant and then nurse it back to life, and then watch it grow and bloom and blossom. symbolism! i can use this later!
ㅤㅤ♡ enjoys making things and being craft. they would try their best to make jewelry. maybe gifts for those they care about.
ㅤㅤ♡ would try their best to learn ssl to understand others better

ㅤㅤ♡ more of a note than plot, but i'm going to write in hints to their shapeshifting ability. stuff like “they half expected their fur to turn blue, but no. they were still the same old falconcat they'd ever been!” or maybe a lot of curiosity about the other species.. like… hint hint, wink wink
