Frequently Asked Questions
Scratch Writing Camp
Scratch Writing Camp
Before we begin, a huge thank you to Miri (@moonlark-) for the original FAQ, as well as to Pi (@pitau) and Moonlit (@MoonlitSeas) for updating it along the way! I've just added and revised some information to account for some of the more recent shifts within the community <3
Hello everyone! Due to recent changes and shifts within the community we have decided to post an updated FAQ to answer any new questions. The FAQ project can be found here: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1350105570/. This forum is merely a continuation since projects have a character limit and we do understand that there are a lot of questions that you guys would like answered.
With that in mind, please REFRAIN from posting in this forum as we will be updating it as new questions come in and would like to ensure that it remains a clutter-free space. You can, however, post any questions you have in the comments of the project linked above and we’ll get back to you. To keep yourself up to date, don’t hesitate to follow this forum to get notified whenever we answer a new question.
Thank you and happy SWC <3

Q. What are honoraries?
A. Essentially honoraries are people NOT participating in SWC that given session but are still willing to help out in a cabin. They shouldn't be the one's asking however, as it should be the (co)leaders of the cabin reaching out to said individual to ask if they're interested <3 The honorary basically acts as an “extra leader/helper” in the cabin however, they cannot contribute to the cabin’s point total. They generally are there to help out for storyline purposes, though they can also help leaders with word adding or check-ins with campers. They also have no obligation to be active ^^

Q. I missed the sign-up deadline for SWC, what can I do?
A. No worries! If backups haven’t closed yet (still not past the third week of camp) you still have a chance to get sorted. Simply fill out the form in the project description of camper signups and you will be sorted during one of the backup camper cycles. There are typically two rounds of backup campers after which signups are closed for the session. For the future, you can also let one of the hosts know if you’d like to be notified when camper signups are released so that you don’t miss them and can sign up on time ;D

Q. If I am a backup, can I turn in dailies and weeklies before I am sorted and have those points count towards my cabin?
A. Unfortunately your SWC participation only starts AFTER you have been sorted meaning that completing past dailies and weeklies (even if by the deadline), will not earn your cabin points. You are, however, allowed to add any words you have written so far in that month regardless of when you get sorted!

Q. After the session ends, how long do I have to add words?
A. Camp ends after 11:59 PM on March 31/July 31/Nov 30 in YOUR timezone. After which, no words you write will be allowed to count towards your word count. If you have any unadded words that were written during the SWC month, you have until midnight UTC on April/August/Dec 3rd to add them to your word count studio. Sometimes you’ll be able to add it a bit later, however, the hosts start final word count collection at this time so don’t miss the chance to add your words!
As a general rule of thumb, try to add your words as you write them since after the session ends you’re only allowed to add 10k maximum to your total. For example, if you had 21k unadded words but camp has ended, you would unfortunately only be able to add 10k to your word count since the 21k turns into reserves as soon as SWC ends.
