The AI on scratch problem
So I was just peacefully scrolling on my YouTube homepage and I saw a person by the username of SnipeSnap talking about how scratch betrayed the community by it's new membership and AI terms of service describing the membership as a “two level hierarchy” and also pointing out a topic post made by a user describing the premise of scratch being of coding “done from scratch” and that AI was breaking this very concept, SnipeSnap also shed light on the fact that the update on terms of service was disguised as a child laws update to the terms of service, I am writing this as a response to this AI problem, initially I thought it wouldn't be the end of the world but after the video It became evident this would be a major problem, especially since part of the new terms of service update was the ability to train their AI using users content.
DATA TRAINING FAILS
let's say you made a game about collecting farts, that very same content would be used to train an AI, another thing, let's say you make a security project with the intents to allow specific users to use an early access game and crashing/not allowing other users to enter, and you accidentally make a fatal mistake, you save a broken version of the code where no matter what it crashes the user, no one will ever be able to use it, as a result the AI might mistake this as a way to prohibit people properly from using the project, so lets say that a user tells the AI to generate a script capable of only allowing their friends to use it, the clueless user might save the project not knowing this would be their one and only moment to disarm the script and not lose the entire project they worked so hard on, these same problematic data sets COULD be sold to third party buyers without consent of the users.
WHY I'M MAKING THIS FORUM
you may be asking, what's a small little forum post gonna do against the scratch foundation? well glad you asked, you see a very important part of this job is a protest, a protest that may already exist, maybe something by the name of #NoAiOnScratch? you see if you search of the following term #NoAiOnScratch on any major search engine you'll find a closed forum on it doing some of the work to start it and a very active studio on #NoAiOnScratch, so I ask you one thing, to join the protest by doing something, like requesting someone on said studio to add a related project on the topic. -igtnathan5 6th of April 2026 at 3:59 AM (Yes don't ask)
