When I type : ) without the space it automatically converts to on the forums.
I like these emojis but I feel like sometimes they convey a completely different emotion than what I typed, so is there a way to make it not do that?

To avoid having an emoticon converted to an emoji, you can put an empty BBCode tag after the colon.

For example:
:[u][/u])
:)

you can also use the ZERO WIDTH NON-JOINER (U+200C) too, or other unicodes to bypass the emoticon system :v
