ok, im trying to use this backdrop# stage and i cant find the variable i want it only goes to certain ones. WHY??????

Periods and commas please? I practically can't read your post lol. If you mean that the

([backdrop# v] of [stage v])

block isn't updating properly this should go in bugs or your project is EXTREMELY laggy.
If you mean that you have costumes named like “1” and “3” and whatnot, then your problem is that its switching to costume number, not name.

If you could clarify your problem better I can provide a more specific solution to your problem

If you mean its not switching costumes, double check the names. Costume names and the Switch Costume to block is one of the very few things that's case-sensitive. If you moved all of your backdrops to a sprite, make sure you double check the blocks even if you are not using variables and whatnot because the blocks don't update automatically.
