Terms of Service Updates
Hey, Scratchers!
As you’ve likely seen, we rolled out new Terms of Service today. We want to share more about what these updates mean for you and for Scratch.
Parental Consent
In order to comply with laws and regulations in your local area, we’ve made some changes to how parental permission works on Scratch. If you are under the legal age required to consent to use Scratch in your state/country, you’ll need to get permission from a parent or guardian to continue using Scratch. Whenever we ask you to agree to something, like changes to our Terms of Service, you’ll need to review that with a parent, too. This change is to ensure your safety and the safety of the entire Scratch community.
Using Data to Improve Scratch
With tens of millions of Scratchers around the world, Scratch has grown into a global community where kids like you express themselves, explore ideas, and build friendships through creative coding. We’re now exploring new AI-powered tools designed to support this community with even more ways of creating.
The tools we’re imagining will help you with things like exploring ideas, understanding code, or getting unstuck – not to do the creating for you. Your imagination, decisions, and voice will always come first. You can learn more about our approach to AI here.
When people use Scratch, we learn from what they create and how they explore the site. This helps us understand what’s working well and what we can improve. Occasionally, we may share anonymized and aggregated information with trusted partners to help us discover what helps you use Scratch better. We’ll use this information to do things like improve project discovery, make onboarding into the community clearer and easier, and improve experiences and features across Scratch for everyone.
This information will not include names or personal details, and it isn’t–and cannot be–used to identify individual Scratchers.
We’re committed to being thoughtful and transparent as we make these changes. Thanks for being part of the Scratch community.
